    Coach Cafe Pictures

that clearly shows converted SL1 cars, but on the HF website, they say SL2... I'll put my money on the HF website being wrong, and your info being correct.

    Coach Cafe Pictures

what they say on the HF website is that it is a SL2 coach with coach seating upstairs, and a cafe section downstairs.

Watching the Weather from a train

I'll be the first to admit that going through a big thunderstorm with lots of lightning to watch through the window is way more fun on a train than on an airplane....

Ooops... apparently it snows in Flagstaff

My first trip to the Grand Canyon many years ago, on a trip with my parents, the tour bus had to stop and raise his tag axle to get better traction. I have pictures of my father and I throwing snowballs at each other while we were waiting.

Sleepers and other variants are mentioned in the descriptions, but they did not do separate drawings for them.

Newbie with questions about becoming OBS Trainee

There are a few people on this forum who are current OBS. They would be the ones (if they are comfortable with it) to discuss those points you raised. It might be something they do via private messaging, not publicly. In any case, best of luck as you embark on your new career. Looking forward...

    Amtrak Vacations Problems

I don't know how this works in case of a "package" through an agent, but it seems that in direct bookings with Amtrak, that type of credit seems to get resolved as well as possible.

Lake Shore Limited - which type of business class car is used?

What I don't see on the National Cafe Menu that appears on most of the regional or corridors, are the sandwich selections, which are generally decent, as well as a few other items that aren't bad.

    Entertainment on the train

The VL1 when first introduced had little video screens in each room and you could choose from a small selection of movies. They were played on a VCR in a cabinet in the hall, and auto rewound. Tapes don't last very long in that kind of service, and vcrs hated being run constantly without head...

    Morning Paper in sleepers?

One thing that certainly changed where I live is the disappearance of kids delivering the paper before they went to school. Now the papers are delivered by adults with long routes, and I don't need a morning paper that shows up 2 hours after I get out of bed...

How well does a pocket radio work in the sleepers?

I listen to the radio every day when I wake up. I also have a few of my favorites programmed in the car, and enjoy certain programming, despite having Sirius which has so many choices. The effects of both consolidation of ownership and syndication have taken away some of the "fun" in listening...

How well does a pocket radio work in the sleepers?

of course, if you have a decent internet signal, many radio stations now stream, as well as Sirius/XM Satellite also available with streaming and archive if you have a subscription in your car...

Canadian border reopening; how soon will international railrestored?

We do them at JFK and LGA for no charge if you live or work in NY, rapid and regular at one time, rapid back in about 20 mins, PCR usually the next day. I don't know if the NYC results are accepted for all travel, but i know the PCR is run by the NYC HHC PRL which is CLIA so it should be (not...

Canadian border reopening; how soon will international railrestored?

That sounds a little low for a lab run PCR. Make sure that whatever test they are offering is one that is acceptable for travel/border. Some testing requirements call for RT-PCR, and a rapid may not be acceptable. I don't know what the rules are for this case.

How cold does it get on Amtrak Trains

Since the original question is about the LSL, only the Viewliner matters. The in room temp control is for the supplemental strip heater along the window wall, you also have warm air coming in overhead, that is common with the whole car, the sca may be able to help with that, but not always. I...
