    Trip suggestions (CA<->FL)

    Not to mention that the Cardinal runs 3 days a week, as well as the Sunset, and will be, barring changes.

    Trip suggestions (CA<->FL)

    I have done all LD routes west of CHI, save for the SEA-SPK Builder and Sunset+Eagle Combo (aka "Trains 421/422"). I have not done Sunset LA US-NOLA UPT either. As for east of CHI/NOLA, I have done LS Ltd NYC and Capitol Ltd. I have yet to travel on the Cardinal, LS Ltd Boston, or the Crescent...

    Trip suggestions (CA<->FL)

    I currently live in Sacramento CA area and I am thinking about visiting my relatives in Florida in the near future (exact timing TBD). They live in Tampa/St. Pete area and I have researched some flight options to get there, but apart from a SFO to MCO on select days in August, there are no good...

    Northern California storms

    It has come to my attention that Northern California is being battered with gusty hurricane force winds, blizzards and snow in the mountains, and downpours of rains. Several highways, including the I-5 near Grapevine, are either currently closed, or were closed for some time. Transit services...

    Getting to SFO Airport from SAC

    I have a medical device (CGM or continuous glucose monitor) on me, as well as carrying a spare one. When I asked my providers they told me that I cannot go through a millimetre wave or x-ray scanners, as these devices will not work once I pass through those scanners, and advised me to request...

    Getting to SFO Airport from SAC

    I have a flight coming up in a week from today out of SFO, and I live in the North area of Sacramento, about 30 minutes from downtown, where the Sacramento Valley Rail Station is located (I know the bus schedule into downtown already, so I can leave accordingly), and the flight leaves for PHX at...

    Tough times for Sacramento RT Light Rail

    Yesterday at about 9:38 pm local time, two Sacramento RT light rail consists - an inspection train (1 car consist, former Santa Clara VTA, by Canadian UTDC) and a revenue train (2 car consist, either by Siemens Düwag or CAF) collided with each other, when the revenue train rear-ended the...

    CZ Service Disruption?

    I have a friend (he works for Amtrak, on the San Joaquin route) who wanted to visit New York Upstate (it's his hometown) with his family for a reunion gathering. They left Sacramento late last week (a few days ago), and was turned back at Denver, due to disruptions preventing their train from...

    CZ Service Disruption?

    Tough times in Amtrak West, Near Midwest, and Lower Midwest. I will be following this thread to see if/when Amtrak brings back service. Looks like a freak weather event.

    Sunset losing Diner?

    Why do they called it the Automat car if it was just the vending machines?

    California Zephyr detour from Omaha to Chicago?

    The Chief's only Iowa stop is in Fort Madison, which is on the fringe southeast tip of the state, barely passing through. Only issue is the MS River downflow.

    Reporter took the Coast Starlight end to end in coach

    I have done PDX to LAX in coach, pre-BC era (which is a few hours short of the SEA Times reporter's trip, and it is completely doable and pleasant, if you have patience and endurance. Heck, I've done longer trips in coach, between SAC and CHI twice. Depends on how you view it.

    California Zephyr detour from Omaha to Chicago?

    I saw a FB post by a railroad fanpage and looks like the tracks are under water. So one can only imagine the severity.

    Amtrak moving forward to stop all, most LDT

    What are the odds that Admin proposal (stopping all 15 LD routes) and Gardner's goals being approved, considering a split congress and a handful pro-Amtrak congressmen and senators, and reauthorization being around the corner? Looks like a battle from without and within. Speaking of buses, they...

    Amtrak moving forward to stop all, most LDT

    So what should we do to slow or prevent Gardner's dream from coming true? I'm assuming that there are those who oppose his intents. Sure, millenials may be the largest single customer base segment, but you need to factor in GenX'ers and pre-Boomer generations, and the sum of Boomers, GenX'ers...

    2019 CA Zephyr Snow/Weather Delays

    FYI, I was told on Friday on the local news that the Rockies west of Denver are prone to avalanches (high to extreme risk) and as such under avalanche warning. Things can get interesting.

    2019 CA Zephyr Snow/Weather Delays

    Looks like that it is an on-off situation: 2/26-3/1, 3/4 not cleared. Any developments as of late?

    City of New Orleans Bustitution (ended)

    Since bustitution on the Cono is indef, why not remove the phrase "(thru March 11)"?
