Do members look forward to a train trip as much as people awaiting a cruise?

Agree about Princess… the lowering of food quality and recent watering down of loyalty benefits has me looking more at Celebrity, which we tried for the first time pre pandemic and I found many improvements over Princess. Food quality, cabins, shows…the only downside is the prices are higher...

Did Amtrak remove the bathrooms from the Viewliner train roomettes?

During the day I think it’s kind of gross having the toilet exposed in the roomette instead of closed off like the bedrooms. At night I’m glad it’s there. And I agree it also depends on traveling alone vs with a partner.

Coffee in the sleeper was hit or miss on the LSL… had it westbound, but not eastbound

Do members look forward to a train trip as much as people awaiting a cruise?

I’m also a fan of train-to-cruise vacations, and pre pandemic that was starting to be our preferred method. I so enjoyed not having to make all the necessary preparations for air travel, especially on the return trip where packing is a lot less meticulous on my part. Also we sail a lot of...

And in reverse, if you’re in the NY side and would like a snack or night cap, same problem. Last week on the westbound LSL, hubby and I shared a couple of those large Chardonnay bottles and he started up a chat with the cafe attendant about restaurant recommendations in Chicago. The flex meal...

I thought there might be artificial demand for sleepers right now because of Covid and the mask mandate, but my LSL trip last week found the sleepers less than half full. My travel days were Thursday and Sunday nights though, which may have lower ridership. On alternate Fridays when I take the...

I couldn't take my rings off for three days after flex dining on the LSL to and from Chicago for a long weekend last week. Happens every time I eat those flex meals more than once....probably water retention from all the sodium.

Bedroom A Bedroom B (price on Meteor)?

Can I ask what hubby found objectionable about the H cabin, other than the lack of a chair?

Bedroom A Bedroom B (price on Meteor)?

Yeah I have to learn to get over the fear of sounding condescending or entitled when asking for a supervisor….plus I’m generally non confrontational so it doesn’t always occur to me to even ask. I’m working on it though lol

Bedroom A Bedroom B (price on Meteor)?

I must have spoken to the same agent…. on Thursday I called to see if my LSL trip that evening in B could be moved to H as long as no one disabled was using it. She told me the room was as available but it would cost an additional $500+ because of the fare increase as well as losing the...

    Mask Mandate for Transportation Extended

And for drinking you could use one of those beer helmets with the straw snaking around your ear behind your mask lol

    Mask Mandate for Transportation Extended

Oh I don’t doubt that they’re applying common sense in practice, but to say there isn’t an oversight somewhere either by Amtrak or the federal mandate means when they cover eating and drinking explicitly but fail to mention showering or brushing teeth seems inconsistent. I mean, shouldn’t common...

    Mask Mandate for Transportation Extended

I've even been told by SCA's on more than one occasion, while reaching for my mask when they've come to the door, that I don't have to put it on....this is even with though the door is open while we're talking. I still do it though in case the roomette across the hall has a problem, then take it...

Passenger mistaking someone else's room for theirs

Or a brightly colored bungee to hold it closed while you’re out. I haven’t tried this but I’ve thought about it.

Is Solo a Good way to Travel Amtrak?

I think the problem is that it’s hard for most travelers to distinguish between service dogs, which have all the ADA protection, and emotional support animals which do not. Also, many people assume service dogs are only for the blind, however they’ve now become trained to pull wheelchairs and...

Free alcoholic drink included for dinner for sleepers

I was surprised to find out that not all vodka is gluten free, since I thought all vodka was made from potatoes. Apparently that is not the case.
