Amtrak restores staffing positions at Marshall station

    Why am I not surprised.

Amtrak restores staffing positions at Marshall station

Because every Railroad is in a hiring freeze. The only jobs that Amtrak is hiring are for emergency needs. I've mentioned it in my Careers on the Rails thread.

Alstom making progress on Acela 2 contract

The set that is in Penn Coach Yard finally had the nose cone closed yesterday afternoon, along with a bunch of workers in orange vests around it when I passed by around 430ish. On a side note, hopefully with testing now reaching High Speeds at TTCI the set in Philly will be able to touch the...

Judge reinstates charges in Philly crash

I'm going to agree with you. I have been on that stretch of RR, granted on the Delair Branch which is Conrail turf and 25 MPH, I have been "rocked" a few times on that stretch. I will add that only one person has said that the person(s) who threw the rocks were at least partially responsible...

    Are fares dropping?

No. Fares haven't dropped. Everything is low bucket cause no one is traveling. I really don't know why you're having trouble applying the "theory" of the buckets. It's pretty simple.

Still no change or cancellation fees for new bookings?

The new date to cancel is now August 31st according to Amtrak.com.

    When will Keystones resume?

Highly unlikely. Qualifications on Physical Characteristics expire after 1 year of not being the Engineer or Conductor on a piece of territory. We're no where near that mark.

Closure of NYP (1am to 5am)

66/67/65 haven't run in about a month. There are only 3 trains running between WAS and BOS a day and an additional train in each direction between NYP and BOS. I believe that PHL has been closed between 1 and 5am for 2 or 3 weeks now, and only the 30th Street Side of the station is open for...

Alstom making progress on Acela 2 contract

Fair point. But, Alstom is a key contractor and developer of ACSES, the PTC used on the NEC. And IINM, Siemens installed ACSES on the ACS units when they were being built. I could understand your point more if these were something like P42's. Which need to have PTC installed and they've been...

Alstom making progress on Acela 2 contract

A post on another forum indicate that the new Acela set in Philly won't touch the main line until PTC is installed on it. I hope that I'm wrong, but this kinda seems like BS. It doesn't make any sense to me that a brand new piece of equipment wouldn't come with a critical component installed...

    Service canceled

Most likely due to the current cutbacks in service.

Richard Anderson replacing Wick Moorman as Amtrak CEO

For some odd reason AU was painfully slow for me for a period of 30 minutes and it just now got back to normal.

Richard Anderson replacing Wick Moorman as Amtrak CEO

Well, let's be honest, he sure as all heck didn't win over any "buffs" or "advocates" with several of his decisions. I'll be honest, I'm one of them to an extent. But as Jis has mentioned, his orders came from the board. But with that being said he did make some good decisions as the boss. One...

Signs about Anderson and Amtrak north of PHL

That's a good question.. I'll have to see what I can find out. LOL!!!

Alstom making progress on Acela 2 contract

Yeah well thanks to your text it seems like someone decided to be a jerk and pull an April fools joke.. It's not happening.

Drove past 30th Street around 3pm and the pan was up on one power car and the blue flag in the window.

    Amtrak trains without Conductors?

As you and I both know, it's the other way around. :) Conductors are promoted to Engineers.

    Amtrak trains without Conductors?

Amtrak will hire Engineers "off the street" with no experience very, very, rarely. Freight side you hire out as a Conductor first. Amtrak it's best to hire as a Conductor first, then after sometime it's best to try to promote to Engineer.
