I called AGR to ask my question and was told, perhaps incorrectly, that if there was a lower fare I would be refunded the difference in points. Clarification: I called Amtrak's reservation number for AGR Select.

I know that if you buy a ticket with credit card and the price drops, you can get the difference refunded. But, if you buy with AGR points, will they also refund the difference in points or are you stuck?

Not railroad, but highly recommend the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum in Washington, Pa, about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh. Large roster of older but very well maintained trolleys and interurbans with several in regular operation on about a two mile track.

It would be interesting to know from the few Amtrak employees who post here if this rings true. Of course it's always possible that this is just a viewpoint of an outlier of one disgruntled Amtrak employee, despite his public face with passengers. Though, frankly, I doubt it.

I believe this may be the answer. Banks make their money from those with the worst credit and carry large balances. When interchange fees were limited several years ago by Dodd Frank banks' revenue took a major hit. Now they need customers who can't pay their full bill every month. With interest...

Appreciate the details on the promotion points. However, a call center employee isn't likely to have any substantive background scoop. They only disclose what's in their scripts and because their calls are monitored and recorded they are unlikely top go out on a limb.

B of A isn't issuing any AGR cards now as that agreement expired. We are waiting to find out who the new partner will be. But unless a bank has a charter in the UK, doubtful they can issue cards there, unless to existing customers who live there.

This should give us some comfort. But the task force could still recommend changing on board dining in a way we prefer not, just after things went positive on the Western trains and may be trending the right way on some Eastern trains. We shall see as this introduces another level of government...

First, we need a task force to make a recommendation as to whether or not to form a committee to study it. That way, we can kick the can years down that road so it is never addressed.

You must use your Amtrak mobile ticket to flash on the reader at the gate. I am not sure what they do if you have only a paper ticket.

And when your cost overruns become egregiously high, no problem, the Federal government compliantly writes more checks.
