Cincinnati waiting room closed on Mondays?

This is a carry over from when the station opened at 11 pm. The hours were updated to open at midnight when it was destaffed and no one at Amtrak realized that would change what “Closed Monday Night” meant.

Huge ridership killer in reservation system for 3x weekly service

The majority of Amtrak's funding comes from ticket revenue. The current federal funding level assumes ridership that does not exist currently.

    Amtrak Service Reductions

Many airlines are letting you move flights for free right now. Not sure if that helps you or not.

Hoosier State tickets sales suspended for after June 30

Cincinnati City Council supports a daily Cardinal as a precursor to a Chicago corridor train, even at the current times. That is why the Cardinal conference a couple of years back was held in Cincinnati. The city also offered to help pay to keep the station staffed but was rebuffed by Amtrak.

    Silver Star oversold at Richmond?

Oversold means there are more passengers booked than seats available. The extra passengers are usually seated in the cafe and you may even have standees. It can happen for a number of reasons, although it's usually not planned. One common one is an earlier train being cancelled and Amtrak trying...

Indiana proposed budget zeros out Hoosier State funding

I think this might be the year the Hoosier State is finally taken out behind the shed and put down. Amtrak has proven that they can get equipment to Beech Grove on the Cardinal, so they aren't going to be in the mood to deal, and the current train is a real poor setup. Unless INDOT plans to...

Can we make "contemporary dining" better?

Gardner is much more likely to become the next Amtrak CEO than be fired. He has been taking on increased responsibility on the executive team of late.

Checking up on Amtrak's (lack of) ADA compliance

Nothing public. I looked it back up and the plan is to turn the stairs into a ramp in FY19. They are also going to put a fence between the tracks and some new signage.

Checking up on Amtrak's (lack of) ADA compliance

Harpers Ferry has plans for platform improvements on the books. Construction to start "soon". Clifton Forge got caught up in the on again off again plans to move the waiting room to the C&O historical society's depot. CSX wants Amtrak out of the existing site. I don't think they have been able...

    Dinner served on 50?

The second sleeper did not run on 50/51 this summer. This was account reduced sleeper inventory due to the Silver Star wreck or reduced demand due to the termination at DC depending on who you ask.

Southwest Chief News & Future Operations

The current language in PRIIA directs Amtrak to "minimize the need for federal subsidies" but the intent is the same. Anderson has referenced that clause in defense of some of the cuts that have been proposed or made.

Southwest Chief News & Future Operations

I've said this before. The same Congress that requires Amtrak to make a profit will also have no problem requiring Amtrak to run unprofitable trains if they choose. Management should know that by now.

Staffed to Unstaffed Stations Master Thread

The change from bag-dorms to full bags was made primarily because of a projected increase in bike demand. I don't see that demand going away, but they probably need to expand the number of stations than handle walk-up bikes.
