Two waiters and a cook struggled to meat the demand on the coast Starlight. One waiter and one cook is going to be even harder. Everything has to go perfectly for meals to be served hot/warm.

I think single level and standardization is the key. The alternative bedroom set up is better than the current set up in that now there’s two comfortable window seats. And both seats could be used for napping. The bed being parallel to the window is better.

Jis, I was not suggesting NYC take the hit, I was intending to back off of my original suggestion. I had thought about suggesting that the Crescent assume the Night Owl slot but I am not sure that Boston would be able to service the train properly.

At some point, it is quite possible for Seimans to have manufactured the majority of Amtrak's equipment. In this case, IMHO it might be an improvement for Amtrak to contract maintenance work to Siemens rather than continue to rely on their own employees to service the equipment.

Imho the Crescent schedule could be shifted for an overnight between New Orleans and Atlanta and then daylight to New York City. The section from Fort Worth could be scheduled to arrive in Atlanta at about 8 pm and the run overnight to on the Crescent’s old schedule.

The microwave popcorn is interesting. Amtrak used to sell it years ago and stopped. I was told it was because the microwave would be out of service if the popcorn was not popped correctly or some other weird explanation. I will be eating the hot salted pretzel when I ride in April.

Japan also runs double sets of Shinkansen trains from Tokyo. Then the trains split at an intermediate stop and one trapped to Akita and the other continues to north through the Delian tunnel. The split takes 5 minutes at most.
