    Brightline Trains Florida update

Wonder how they expect to be able to really hit their target numbers or approach break even on their rail operations with the current number of coaches per train. Think it would be much easier if they had 8 or 10 cars vs the current 4. But last I heard they don’t have any outstanding orders...

Acela 21 development, testing and deployment

Are they leaving enough time for 9" testing before official revenue service or should we read this to imply 7" will be the max?

    Texas Central Railway

Wasn’t saying they needed to acquire land yet, but holding the right to exercise eminent domain was the main point here, they would only do so once the funding had been confirmed. It would just let them clear the path so that the legal battle did not end up being repeated

Acela 21 development, testing and deployment

Just a quick question, regarding the tilt mechanism on the new Acela, is there to be any time savings associated because of it (particularly north of NYP)? And is the FRA is at all hamstringing the run times by restricting the tilt to a limit below the max permitted etc. Asking because I...

    Texas Central Railway

Any idea what number of riders they would need in order to break even on the existing operation in Florida? Just curious

    Texas Central Railway

Pretty sure Brightline could acquire it and sit on the project for 10 or so years while they land the plane on both FL and LV. Don’t believe TC has any debt and also has very little owned property.

Airo - Amfleet I replacement Siemens Inter City Trainsets (ICT)

Who were they building that specialized equipment for?

NEC SOGR, improvements and planned expansion of service

Thank you! You were correct, I couldnt find the latest version and had been looking at an out of date version. Great to see they changed their mind, I have no idea why they would build a fixed span next to a movable one when they could just build basically the same bridge twice. No reason to get...

NEC SOGR, improvements and planned expansion of service

Read today that the portal south bridge is supposed to be a movable bridge while the Portal North will be a fixed span. Is there any reason for this? Are they both expected to have the same speed limit (I know the Portal North is supposed to be 90mph, but curious if that is also the case with...

Airo - Amfleet I replacement Siemens Inter City Trainsets (ICT)

Would it ever make sense to have an DEMU where it could use overhead catenary power when in electric territory like a normal emu, but when in diesel territory it would use a prime mover + alternator (but no motors or anything else), to provide power to the EMU car motors throughout the train...

Airo - Amfleet I replacement Siemens Inter City Trainsets (ICT)

Based on the Airo order including a power car/APV connected to the locomotive, would it be safe to infer that Siemens would be able to turn the Venture cars into an EMU trainset pretty easily if they were asked? Or are there a bunch of components on the loco that are required for traction power...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022-23)

Are you certain that the figure you are using isn't meant to include some maintenance cost, like the earlier Airo ICT order did?

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022-23)

Maybe, and you are probably right, but there's some 'ugly aesthetic' alarm that goes off in my head when I see 2 engines on the front and none in the back of a given train... but thats a me problem hahaha

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022-23)

Ok there are a few things here I want to reply to but rather than that, I think what’s clear to me is that I always thought of LD trains as essentially long haul flights for around 12 hours, rather than people actually spending 16-72 hours on board a single train. Regarding the fold up seat, my...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022-23)

If you look at my comment above, I believe you can get about 40-44 pods per multilevel train. I would guess you could get around 26-30 per single level car, or Amfleet car. I estimate they are about 44 inches long per pod since your legs are technically under the seat in front of you when it’s...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022-23)

The way I see it, they should either use the same shells as the rest of their fleet for commonality (Siemens Venture) or go with the Bombardier Multilevel Coaches for the benefit of existing and proven off the shelf models, as well as these coaches being flexible enough to easily support...

    Brightline Trains Florida update

Fantastic to see how the ridership numbers are beginning to pop after staying somewhat flat for a lot of 2022. Really seems to bode well for the entire project and any future expansion plans Brightline has. So great to see a new brand new railroad succeeding, and one with competent management too.

Airo - Amfleet I replacement Siemens Inter City Trainsets (ICT)

As a matter of principle, crews should not be taking up locations that are for passenger use.

    Brightline Orlando extension

Watched a few videos of Brightline recently and was wondering if anyone knows if Brightline is using both of their locomotives for traction currently or is it used as one for traction and one for HEP? Is there any downside to using both for traction? Would think it would help them hit their...
