    A refreshing experience

Of course AGR and the AGR credit cards are different. But the hacker got my AGR card as well. FNBO caught the bogus CC charges and refunded the amounts. In fact, I don't believe i've lost a penny during the whole thing, just a lot of time. But the scary thing was that about 2 weeks after FNBO...

    A refreshing experience

We all have our complaints about Amtrak, but I recently had an almost unbelievable experience. Several of my online accounts had been hacked, but it never occurred to me to check my AGR account. As I was going through my many accounts and changing the password, phone number, and user ID, if...

    Booking online/Amtrak website

"We are unable to process your request. Try again or call 1-800-USA-RAIL for assistance. (Ref.27Q28SQQ)" I've been noticing this error almost word for word on many websites lately. It's what I call the lazy programmer error. I once got this error when I was trying to log on to a bank...

Amtrak long term service cancellations and restorations (2022-2023)

To clarify, the evening Carl Sandburg 382 from Quincy to Chicago and the evening Illinois Zephyr 383 from Chicago to Quincy are still running. I suppose that means 383 will lay over in West Quincy from about 10:30PM until about 5:30PM the next day. And 382 which arrives in Chicago about...

Amtrak long term service cancellations and restorations (2022-2023)

I'm planning a 5 segment trip: Quincy, Galesburg, Denver, Chicago, NY, Tampa departing Nov 19, with 2 nights in the ill-fated 32 car on the California Zephyr. When I received that dreaded robo call from Amtrak, I feared he worst. But it merely notified us that the short QCY-GBB segment would be...

AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

Did anyone notice that when you set up an FNBO credit card as a payee on a third party on-line bill pay system, the payment will be sent via snail mail. Most large company payees, such as BoA credit cards, get sent electronically. Snail mail is reserved for mothers-in-law and such.

    Booking online/Amtrak website

I think that the "creaky" part, namely Arrow, gets a bad rap. I think the culprit is the "advanced programming" of the website. When I try to retrieve fares using Firefox, it either spins its wheels and dies, or displays that lazy programmer style error message so popular these days: I don't...

AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

Same here except the balance due was several $100's too high. Looking at the transactions, I saw that ones from my wifes BoA AGR card were mixed in with mine. My first thought was to try to set up and log on to my wife's FNBO account to see what hers showed. But I got that new style error...

AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

I received a postcard like mailing from Amtrak Guest Rewards PO Box 3955 Omaha, NE 68103-0955 It said my new card is arriving soon, and then a few instructions. It also invited me to visit our welcome center at card.fnbo.com/amtrakguestrewards/faq. This took me to a website that looked like a...

AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

I have the fee card; my wife the no-fee. We both got the packet on the same day. Her packet clearly says no-fee.

St. Petersburg Bus to Tampa Amtrak?

I've taken the Tampa to STP several times; and it's always been a good ride. Only Amtrak passengers, and a regular large bus. My only gripe is that they closed down the staffed station that was in a storefront in a strip mall in Pinellas Park. The new "station" is an unstaffed local bus stop...

Insider.com and businessinsider.com stories about Amtrak trips

I'm not sure how these glitches crept in: A diner or diner-lounge booth was labeled "capitol limited coach class empty row" A single level train was labeled "capitol limited train from dc to chicago"

Long(ish)-term parking along Missouri River Runner route?

I just thought I'd mention Herman, which has plenty of parking. Several times I have parked at Herman and taken the train to Sedalia. Then biked several days back to Herman on the Katy Trail. No problem with the car.

You never know what you will see

That solves the mystery. I think the two engines made me think long distance and Silver Star, The 5 coaches and cafe matched my expectation and had me thinking dining car next. But it must have been baggage.

    Boarding at an unstaffed station

Is it double track at NIB? If so, there is the question of which track to stand on. My only suggestion is to stand on the station side and wave. At KEE (Kewawne, IL) this caused the engineer to stop short of the station and honk, signifying I as to cross over to the opposite track.

You never know what you will see

On Wednesday the 27th we were on enlarged and packed 92. We were stopped approaching the Petersburg station when a weird train passed us going the other way: 2 engines, 5 coaches, cafe car, and dining car. No sleepers. Later we seemed to be stopped much longer than usual at Richmond, the next...

    Capitol Limited discussion

When Amtrak finally instituted roll on - roll off bike service at all stations on the Capital Limited in late September 2015, it used repurposed coach baggage cars with 7 or 8 bike racks. The two times I used it, there were 2 regular coaches and this coach-bike car. It appears the new Capitol...

Former Host Railroads of Amtrak Routes

Santa Fe ~Cameron, IL-Los Angeles, CA 2,096 Miles I presume this is the SW Chief. Didn't it once run on the Santa Fe all the way between Chicago (or somewhere near there) and LA?

    Seattle Baggage

I wasn't referring to stored luggage (left luggage in British parlance), rather not retrieving checked baggage until later.

    Seattle Baggage

I thought Amtrak will hold checked baggage for a time, perhaps 2 days If so, you could check your bags and then pick them up when your room is ready.
