    LIRR Service to Grand Central

My guess is they’re referring to the 24 DM30AC dual mode locomotives which currently are used to access Penn station - this allows direct trains from the eastern parts of LI, where tracks are not electrified. The 20 diesel-electric DE30AC are identical in almost every way to their dual mode...

    MBTA issues

you and I live and work in two different bostons evidently. With all due respect, I don’t think your assessment is accurate or reflective of the current reality. I agree whole-heartedly with this. https://commonwealthmagazine.org/transportation/mbta-not-susceptible-to-magical-solutions/ I...

    MBTA issues

Outlined Here by Steve Poftak. Forcing transit expansion that you’re not ready for, and having to pay it yourself, is also bad.

    MBTA issues

couple of points: -The media in North America very much favors a ridership approach to reporting on transit. I find the problem with this to be twofold. Firstly, there is an overall belief that “ridership justifies existence.” Unfortunately, the way that NA is zoned and planned, exclusively...

    MBTA issues

Another thought on what is specifically wrong with the herald printing this: This gives readers the impression that the MBTA is a system that nobody rides and that nobody needs. In reality, it is a desperately needed system that is underfunded, and poorly managed. All this talk of lower...

    MBTA issues

Wouldn’t be so bad if the T wasn’t slapped with Big Dig debt. How about we require tolls on I-93 to pay for the Big Dig. Of course the Herald is going to write this. It’s not like they’re wrong, but they’re looking through a keyhole when they need to open the door and actually see what’s going on.

What an absolute mess. Not sure if it’s possible for the mbta to bounce back at this point.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Comparing day to two day long train trips to hours long sporting events or concerts is dubious. Not that I do understand the issue at hand, but they are apples and oranges.

    MBTA issues

Lol, a new governor was never going to be a magic want, nor has the ability to come up with a magic want to fix the T. This goes beyond left-right politics and is a much deeper and more complex problem than the jurisdiction of the governor alone. That’s why I scoffed a little when anyone...

    Brightline Trains Florida update

Agreed, but do that have any (public) plans to procure more equipment to meet obvious demand? Running 4 car trains really seems short sighted, at this point. Ridership is strong, even without Orlando.

    Israel Railway developments

The trains in Israel are very effective. I had to travel from Tel Aviv to Haifa, then onto a place called Keshet Eilon. One of the most pleasant transit journey's I've ever taken. No doubt electrification will be a big bonus to such a small country where railways can thrive. That said, Im not...

    MBTA issues

From a financial perspective however, it makes sense. Unburdening the MBTA with the capital costs of electrification and procurement of rolling stock would alleviate their budget, especially given their shouldering of the Big Dig debt.

Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

In my mind, Ohio might be the single area outside of the NEC and maybe California, that trains make the most sense. The population and proximity of the major cities make so much sense for even conventional, Amtrak style passenger rail (let alone HSR or HrSR). Not only that, but they're neatly...
