Carolinian versus Silver Star from RGH to PHL?

I have a sister in the suburbs of Charleston, SC, so I'm sure I'll get to that part of the country on Amtrak eventually. Haven't yet planned the route, though.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I can get both at the supermarket, but wasn't sure about their availability on Amtrak.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I wonder if bottled tea on Amtrak is available in an unsweetened version? I like a little lemon in my tea when I can get it, but unsweetened iced tea is (usually) far preferable to sweet tea for both my husband and me.

Resumption of Amtrak service to Canada (2022-2023)

"row, row, row your boat" ;)

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

It was about in 1980 when I rode Slumbercoach (I think NYC to Chicago, coming back from an academic conference at Yale). I don't remember exactly what the fare was, but I remember I upgraded to Slumbercoach at the last minute and thought it was pretty inexpensive, even being placed in a double...

Carolinian versus Silver Star from RGH to PHL?

I just got done commenting on a Quora question's answer where the answerer was griping about having to go all the way to DC from Tampa, FL (Amtrak bus to the Silver Meteor, Silver Meteor to DC, Crescent DC-NOLA) to catch the Crescent to NOLA. I did a quick search on the Amtrak website, and...

That would make sleeper fares more like the old Slumbercoach fares, where food (other than coffee/bottled water from the coffee station in the sleeper) was an extra charge (per meal back then).

    VIA New Corridor Trains - 2021 - 2023 Updates

The Lincoln Service trains (which go past my office window daily) are running with a mix of the Venture and older cars currently, with the Business Class/cafe car always being one of the older cars. It'll certainly be nice to have information displays on Lincoln Service showing as much info as...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I graduated from college in 1978, and I don't remember ever having to pay more than $10 for lunch as a coach passenger on the Empire Builder then. I would love to see an actual menu with prices from back then, though, to correct my slightly-vague memories.

    Survey Points Club

Now that I have my own AGR credit card, I'd have to agree. I certainly remember to use it when paying for restaurant meals, to get the double points!

    Quad cities train in news

The upgrades required to bring the Lincoln Service/Texas Eagle tracks up to "high-speed rail" standards certainly caused major disruptions in my part of Illinois while construction was ongoing. Amtrak apparently REALLY didn't like having railroad crossings at the intersection of 2 streets, so...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

That doesn't sound too terribly different (at least "within shouting distance") of the lunch menus I remember as a coach passenger on the Empire Builder back in the mid to late '70s. (Except these entrees look even nicer, and not so much emphasis on potato chips as a universal side with the meal.)

    Baggage checking

My hubby and I will be boarding a Lincoln Service train in Dwight, IL (unchecked baggage station, no attendants), heading up to Chicago, boarding the CZ westbound, and going straight through to Emeryville, CA in a roomette. Then reversing the process (CZ eastbound to Chicago, then Lincoln...

    Future Amtrak sleeper ideas

My Norwegian cousins and their neighbors built a road from their town of Vik i Sogn to the Voss station on the Oslo-Bergen railroad route back when I was a little girl. Before then, the only way they could board a train was to take a ferry all the way to Bergen. Even so, at the time I visited...

    Future Amtrak sleeper ideas

Agreed, although it would still provide that large bag luggage space if it were in the middle, and the low flat surface above it could then be a handy alternative to Amtrak's tray tables.

    Future Amtrak sleeper ideas

So cute! (And the pretend "Viking ship" is very appropriate for a Norwegian train.) This reminds me of the play area at the children's museum in Kankakee we used to take our kids to when they were little (20-25 years ago), which featured a "pirate ship" kids could climb around and "fish" from.

    Future Amtrak sleeper ideas

If the low flat surface were in the middle, it would work better for meals, games, etc.

Advice for planning an Empire Builder trip

That's great to hear! I've read/heard/watched other trip reports from people taking Amtrak from New Orleans, and they usually complained about the Magnolia Room in comparison with other sleeping car passenger lounges in other cities.

Ideas for Amtrak to raise revenue

I guess I should be thankful our local station has a bathroom! (No public transportation in town, but no one cares if you leave your car parked in the station's parking lot.)

Ideas for Amtrak to raise revenue

Crane games and gumball machines would make more sense to have a physical presence, as the player would get something tangible (at least a gumball!) from them.
