Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022-23)

It's possible the Auto-Train gets different equipment than the rest of the long-distance fleet.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022-23)

Siemens has a huge advantage over the competition for the long distance bid, but I would rule out Alstom yet. Alstom is making long-distance trainsets for Mexico's Tren Maya; they may be able to adopt those and they facilities in Canada that could give them a leg up in a joint bid with VIA.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022-23)

I suspect if Amtrak orders dedicated loung cars they'll be restricted to sleeping car passengers. Which requires new arrangements to provide food service to coach, but opens up the possibility have a few bedrooms in them. You could put a folding sink above the toilet; it's not uncommon in RV...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I've ridden the Carolinian and all I had to do get my free drinks was tell the attendant I was from BC. There was no cart service. This was in 2021.

    Lake Shore Limited discussion

Isn't NYS moving towards having food service on all Empire Service trains wether they do past Albany or not? The Airo trainsets will all have full cafe cars in addition to full BC cars.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

If there are concerns over the distance BC passengers have to walk to get to the cafe the appropriate solution is to have an attendant servic BC customers at their seats.

Amtrak is finally coming to Scranton!

Amtrak has released schedule options. Personally I prefer Option D, but B is pretty good to. The 2028 start date is a kick in the nuts though...

That makes way too much sense for Amtrak.

    Midwest Venture introduction

It won't be long before someone does a YouTube video of the interior.

Resumption of Amtrak service to Canada (2022-2023)

I originally posted snark about the schedule, but scratch that I'm just grateful it's back. Now if only Amtrak ran it with a BC/ Cafe car.

I can't wait for the photos and reviews.

Dome cars might run afoul of ADA requirements since they'd only be partially accessible. Also the clearance issue would keep them out of the Northeast, but that's not that big a deal.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

    Never underestimate Amtrak. 😉

It seems like it would be easy to implement the alternative bedroom for 3 (aka drawing room) option in a single level car.

    Midwest Venture introduction

I'm curious which routes would have cafes, but no BC or BC, but no cafe.

    Adding frequency to LD service

Assuming availability of equipment would it me feasible to ad a 2nd frequency of the Coast Starlight that ran overnight between LA and the Bay Area then during the daytime to Seattle?

    Future Amtrak sleeper ideas

Great pics! The sleeping compartment day seating mode looks bizarre though. Two small seats beside a low flat surface?

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I refuse to eat in a room with a toilet.

    Adding frequency to LD service

I'd prefer a 2nd frequency of the Palmetto that provided convenient overnight service between NYC and the Carolinas.

Alstom's bid will probably be something more along the lines of the trains they're building for Mexico's Tren Maya than the TGV. https://www.alstom.com/mayan-train-project
