    Thanks for the great explanation.

PTC "Server disruption" service issue (March 2023)

It sounds like it has to do with the integration between Amtrak and the various roads PTC back office systems - so basically it’s host railroad by host railroad. The problem has been more consistent for certain roads out west and appears to be more intermittent in the east (with the roads like...

PTC "Server disruption" service issue (March 2023)

When an engineer initializes and logs in am I correct that they only load up their part of the route (until the next crew change point) then when another engineer takes over they have to do the start up process again for their section of the route. Have experienced PTC startup delays at crew...

PTC "Server disruption" service issue (March 2023)

What a mess. I’m sure Monday’s RPA meeting will be interesting to say the least!

Amtrak changed my accommodation and may miss connection

Greetings from right next door on 79 track 24.

Amtrak changed my accommodation and may miss connection

I tend to agree unless there was a legitimate situation related to accommodating someone or some group (like someone with a disability or unique family situation) - and the proper way to handle that would be to contact the person with the reservation, explain the situation, and ask if they’d...

Amtrak changed my accommodation and may miss connection

Interesting to hear about what happened - I didn’t realize they did this kind of thing. RPA has a survey to report this kind of thing - I don’t know what the fine print on this kind of thing is but you can report this matter to them in this survey if you wish. They inquire about these sort of...

Train Daddy (Andy Byford) is coming to Amtrak!

besides various constraints to that actually happening (it may not be feasible or possible) it’s important to remember that Amtrak serves other stations between Orlando and Miami - it’s not just about end to end overnight passengers in sleepers. A more practical approach would be one or both...

Amtrak changed my accommodation and may miss connection

Not implying in any way that you should do otherwise. I’d probably do the same out west at the moment.

Amtrak changed my accommodation and may miss connection

This is a short term cancellation - not the same thing as what you are referring to. And 9811 is not a base sleeper. This is probably a last minute equipment issue. What you are referring to is a less than anticipated sleeper availability for a consist planning seasonal period that results in...

Amtrak changed my accommodation and may miss connection

I’m guessing this was a last minute car removal due to a bad order if your trip was today. 97(22) being ridiculously late due to the fire probably didn’t help. If you don’t mind me asking - how many sleepers are on the train? That might offer some clues as to what happened. Is there just a 10...

    FY24 Grant Request

It’s a common theme throughout - they specify a base level of funding and “modernization” (additional efforts they could do with a fuller funding.)

    FY24 Grant Request

One thing I liked is they spelled out the initiatives that would be funded if they get the additional dollars - helpful for advocacy efforts to lawmakers to give Amtrak it's fully authorized amount.

Resumption of Amtrak service to Canada (2022-2023)

In addition to the slow orders on the Canadian side is the line not also dark territory north of Schenectady? (And thus speed limited to 59MPH.)

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I wouldn’t expect anything more besides the Meteor before the end of FY23. Even if these rumors are true it’s likely plans for FY24. Around this time last year the hiring and rumors began around traditional dining on the Silvers and only now is it actually happening.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

The dinner entrees are the same on the Auto Train. The prep and presentation is usually a bit simpler assuming because they have a lot more patrons to serve. One other quirk is the auto train also has ice cream and sugar free jell-o for dessert.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

With the diner back I wouldn’t be surprised if they went back to the normal menu. But don’t know for sure.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Yes - they had a “special” flex dining menu for the CONO that featured TV dinner meals from a different vendor that could be nuked in the microwave when it only had a Sightseer (and breakfast and lunch were selections from the cafe car menu). It appears it got the diner back with the March...

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement discussion (2022-23)

Amtrak was considering something like Prestige class a couple years back when Anderson was still around “an experiential service class” was what they were talking about. Seems like that idea fizzled out with Covid. I don’t think it would have flown - his idea seemed to be run less long distance...
