Ohio finally starts the process for new Amtrak service

It looks like there is more hope for increased Amtrak service to the Ohio region. Columbus included in $1 million Amtrak expansion funding According to the article, it looks like "more studies" will be done (which I know, that's all we've been hearing of any other news relating to this...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E)

It was so cool seeing my favorite charger 301 (Day 1 livery) leading again! (Even though it was on the test train from the post above)

Polar Express train at Chicago Union Station

It sounds like that was one of the Metra holiday trains you're referring to.

Polar Express train at Chicago Union Station

It looks like the Polar Express route has started to make an appearance. And yep, @lordsigma called it. They're using horizons.

City of New Orleans (train) discussion

While wondering why the City of New Orleans hasn't shown up on ATCS nor passed the Mount Carmel HS RailStream camera yet tonight (Sunday, December 3rd) , I wondered where it was tonight and I looked up the status of it on the Amtrak website and saw this below. I often see these alerts...

Pittsburgh Amtrak Station past, present and future

I'm glad to see the PIDS and the announcement system in working order. When I was last at PGH, about 4 months ago, this was still under construction. From the last time I was there as well, I see they added "Location" signage on the platforms.

Michigan Service 355 derailment in New Buffalo, MI

According to Amtrak's alerts, they are hoping to have services restored this coming Sunday (November 19th). https://www.amtrak.com/alert/plans-to-restore-all-wolverine-and-blue-water-services-in-michig.html

Michigan Service 355 derailment in New Buffalo, MI

I'm sure the damaged equipment will head to the shops in Beech Grove for repair. I'm glad that there weren't any injuries or casualties and that everyone was able to walk away from it.

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4

This was cool to see on the end of #30 tonight (11/16). It looks like there were some inspection cars at the end of the superliners.

Michigan Service 355 derailment in New Buffalo, MI

It was not a good day for 355 as it derailed in New Buffalo, MI.... https://www.wndu.com/2023/11/17/amtrak-train-derails-new-buffalo-township/ Per the article, no reported injuries as of yet.

    Hiawatha discussion

I'm sorry to hear that the seats of the ventures gave you a negative Hiawatha experience :( I'm assuming you were in the trainset that was comprised of all ventures? I know there's a Hiawatha trainset that is a mix of ventures and horizons (from what I've seen on the railcam). As far as the...

Empire Builder Nov 16 Homeward bound

I'm assuming there was a Subway nearby the station that they could hastily provide to you? That was very thoughtful of Amtrak to provide those to you (even though they were skimpy) due to the inconvenience.

    Cincinnati station?

I know that with most taxi places, you can call them and tell them an arrival time of when you want the cab there. Do note that with Cincinnati's station, there are no front-desk services. There are security guards there at the front of the building, so I would recommend calling while you are...

    Cincinnati station?

From the times that I've been to Union Terminal in Cincinnati, there are usually not any taxi cabs waiting during the times that the Cardinal arrives (IIRC). You may need to call for a taxi after arriving at the station. I've always parked at the station when taking the Cardinal and didn't...

    Hiawatha discussion

I've been noticing recently from watch the Chicago and Northwestern cam that one of the Hiawatha trainsets is all comprised of horizons (as usual), but no amfleet cafe car. I know that the cafe car doesn't actually serve any consumables, but is used to broadcast the wifi signal. With this in...

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E)

I remember talk a while back about the HHP-8s as a replacement for the metroliner cab cars for the Valley Flyers (on the Springfield like you said). It still would be cool/interesting to see Siemens chargers on routes up that way. Either ALCs or SCs would be interesting.

    Amtrak Store changing vendors

Just as a reminder, the new Amtrak Store launched yesterday. From what I've been seeing, the majority of it is merch that was available on the previous store, but some cool new items as well.

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4

In response to your question about the roomettes, I personally do not. I usually only just travel coach as mine are short trips and not long distance.

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E)

I know the Pennsylvanian, Cardinal, Crescent, LSL, as well as Valley Flyers are still using P42s. Some Northeast Regional trains use them as well. These are just a few routes off of the top of my head that I can think of that still use P42s. I know the Cardinal and Crescent still have them...

    Capitol Limited discussion 2023 Q4

One of the differences is that the Cardinal has amfleet coaches, where the CL has superliner. With that being said, I know that you had mentioned a superliner II, which I would take over the amfleet II. The superliners do have more legroom and bigger windows (however, amfleet II windows are...
