    Empire Corridor upgrades

That's certainly ambitious, what are the chances of that actually getting done, including the dedicated passenger rail tracks?

    Empire Corridor upgrades

I'd put it on Front St. and then no relocation, just improve the street and build a parking lot, either use existing buildings or a new one.

Amtrak Dining and Cafe service 2023 H2

Clarification is I shouldn't post late at night when I'm sleepy, they did say Crescent but for some reason I was thinking City of NO. So the Crescent can piggyback off what they are already doing for the Silvers...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe service 2023 H2

In Trains Magazine's online coverage of yesterday's Amtrak meeting, they reported that the Crescent will be the next train to have its food offerings upgraded and that they would get to all the eastern LD trains eventually and expand access for coach passengers to the good stuff too. On...

Over, under, sideways, down, makes no difference to me.

    Amtrak report on fiscal 2023

This is mostly good news, isn't it? Still a lot to do and some issues have been papered over, but...

All Aboard the North Coast Hiawatha (NCH)

Was it the Milwaukee Road that stopped in Lind, WA?

All Aboard the North Coast Hiawatha (NCH)

It also occurs to me that Cheney might be more convenient for folks coming up from the Palouse to the Empire Builder or other train than going all the way into the big city of Spokane would be.

All Aboard the North Coast Hiawatha (NCH)

I wish them luck, but it's only 17 miles from Spokane so it seems an unlikely North Cost Hiawatha stop, maybe for a Spokane to Seattle train by way of Yakima it would make more sense.

    Thanksgiving Fares NYP-BOS

If you go on Tues or Thurs, the price comes down a bunch. Even on Wed you can get a slightly better price on Acela Business Class.

    Canadian Toronto to Vancouver

Having taken the train to and from Chappell Yards in S'toon many times, it's my dream that someday they will reroute it on CPR tracks thru the city so it can stop in town and provide a proper view to the passengers. this former train station still stands in the middle of town on active tracks...

2023 Winter Passenger Rail Gathering (Centralia WA)

I registered to go in person, unfortunately the train from PDX gets there 10 minutes before start time, IF it's on time. So, I'll probably drive. Maybe I'll see some of you there.

Dark, cold, snow, Timmys, in other words the full Canadian Experience!

    Layover in Moynihan Train Hall?

If you do find yourself needing to do this somehow, the Tick tock Diner at the New Yorker Hotel a block north is open 24 hours and would be preferable to being on the street or in Penn I would think. I've been there but it was daylight hours and I don't know how receptive to having folks hang...

    Salt Lake City Station discussion

But if they bring the Pioneer back plus service to Vegas, then with the local service it will be plenty busy.

    U.S./Canada border crossing discussion

I've crossed at both of those and several others in MT, we were with my wife's uncle when he had his car tossed going to Lethbridge, I think it was at Del Bonita. But you never know what you're going to get. Of course, neither do they and they have to deal with the likes of us all darned day.

    Long daytime versus overnight?

I too rode the Shasta Daylight when I was a child, sometimes full length, sometimes part way - we lived in Ashland which by then no longer had rail service. I think we always had someone drive us over the mountains to catch the train.

    Long daytime versus overnight?

I took the Cap on its current schedule WAS to CHI and we saw most of the good scenery in daylight in May.

    Long daytime versus overnight?

Long daytime is desirable iff (if but only if) it means you can see some extraordinary scenery which you would otherwise miss, or if there are major stops in the middle that then get better service than if they are only served in the middle of the night. Spokane and Cincinatti come to mind.

    U.S./Canada border crossing discussion

Driving across i've found most of the smaller crossings to be quite friendly and quick still, both ways.
