Most scenic parts of amtrak routes traversed during the night?

Our particular #7 was running 8 hours late. I had breakfast in Sandpoint and was in Spokane by mid-morning. This was back in May, 2012 as the Empire Builder got hit by a pickup truck a bit east of Devil's Lake ND. It also happened to be my very first Long Distance trip on Amtrak.

Most scenic parts of amtrak routes traversed during the night?

Having been late enough on #7 through Idaho to see it in daylight, I second that nomination. Sandpoint's scenery is awesome! Second place, IMO, would be Utah on the westbound CZ.

    Michigan Trains During Pandemic

I have no clue either. I've not been on a train since February. I'd like to know the answers to the same questions. There will be a day I return to the rails, hopefully soon. I'm getting stir crazy!

What train holds the record for latest arrival/longest delay on Amtrak?

This was the craziest situation I’ve ever heard of! They were stopped in the train yard about a mile after departing the station. I’ve always wondered that if the crew knew they were going to time out when they stopped at the station, why not do it there and wait for the new crew? I remember...

What train holds the record for latest arrival/longest delay on Amtrak?

I was on a 30 hour late Texas Eagle a few years ago. The delay was due to tornados and flooding near San Marcos. I did a travelogue and posted the details here. https://www.amtraktrains.com/threads/michigan-to-california-and-back-october-26-november-2-2015.67314/

Right now, July 2020, may be the ‘sweet spot’ for booking Amtrak travels.

I went to Red Wing to visit friends back in October. It’s a beautiful area! If things are safe I’d love to go back again in the fall. It’s not a far trip for me, so I don’t take advantage of the dining car, however, I’d like to take a longer trip, but only if the regular meals are reinstated...

Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

Bring hot sauce with you then, the meatballs aren’t spicy.

Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

The difficult thing about the flex meals is none of them are exactly good for you. The beef is high in sodium. The Chicken for me was tough the first time I had it.....fine the second. If I ever have to eat the flex meals again, I'll probably stick with the meatballs. I don't mind eating the...

Flexible dining - Requesting a review from a recent rider

I had it in December on the Cardinal. It was okay and probably the best of the flex meals I had. I can't eat spicy stuff so I'm limited as to what meals I can have.

    Understanding the Pere Marquette

Not in 2020, no. I might take the train this year, however. I’d have to monitor things though.

    Understanding the Pere Marquette

Same here. I'll not be traveling again until I can be convinced it's safe. Having the PM back however is the first step, for me.
