A Flâneur in New York (and a bit of New Jersey) via Amtrak in COVID mode

Katz's is a classic.....what I love about NYC (or at least in better times) is that it's long history of settlement by groups from so many countries means that food of any culture is available.... from simple street food to the fanciest establishments. The earliest coal oven pizzerias in the US...

The Museum associated with the memorial re-opened on 9-12 with appropriate precautions. The exhibit had reopened with controlled access.

Beautiful day for this, cool and clear.....Whenever I think of Baltimore and the immigrant experience, I think of Barry Levinson's "Avalon"

Amtrak only uses 2 tracks now one normally, CZ , and sometimes Ski Train. Commuter rail including the one "reserved" for the one that goes to the airport use the rest, and there is passage to the adjoining light rail station, with the bus terminal below and in between. With the Crawford Hotel...

Food Delivery to Denver Union Station

I'm not sure if it's still one hose. When they redid the platform area, I think put in new water and may have added another cabinet. I remember riding out to Denver, and the Amtrak sanitary inspector was aboard checking things, and he said the focus of the trip was to test and verify the new...

Newark to Oceanside, Cardinal, California Zephyr and Coast Starlight

I don't know what is and isn't open in Chicago now, or where you are staying, but if available, there is an endless array of interesting things. Should be cool and pleasant light jacket weather. CTA can get you to most places, last time I got to the Museum of Science and Industry (U-505, cool...

    Amtrak serving every state capital

Tracks and track access are not the same (sadly) Also, the cost of and the willingness of the controlling RR can make it impractical. But like I said, it could be a fun exercise.

    Amtrak serving every state capital

It might be a fun exercise, but some would be fantasy, like Dover, DE and Annapolis, MD or some of the midwest and plains... Problem is, some State Capitals have great historic significance, but may not hold the economic power or population that makes it worthwhile. Track access could be a real...

    Good article on sleeper travel

They would have really loved the mini LCD screens playing the feed off of the VCRs at the end of the car. Especially when the tape was bad, or the machine rewound at the end....That didn't last long.....

Ben's Best on Queens Blvd was a pretty good deli. Used to stop sometimes when I taught at 25 Park Pl. Got bonus miles on AA when I went their. Losing the parking lane killed them.

Phoenix would be a good example. Maricopa is not so close to the heart of the area.
