    New LD Locomotive Order Placed

While its too soon to predict the future, the Genesis will be gone from Amtrak, but a second hand market maybe there for them is something to consider. Just like there are many F40s still on the tracks today, some of which are former Amtrak units retired many years ago. This new order for long...

Metra orders remanufactured EMD SD70MAC locomotives

Essentially proof that an SD70MAC variant can be used in passenger service just like what is done in India. Now if you need US proof, go to Alaska, those SD70MACs pull passenger trains. Fact is, freight engines modified to pull or push passenger trains is nothing new. It's been done for a while...

Metra orders remanufactured EMD SD70MAC locomotives

Metra has lines that are operated by BNSF and UP, which coincidentally both railroads own SD70MACs themselves. Metra also shares trackage operated by freight trains too, so they'll be fine on Metra.

    Question about Orlando area stations

That station and the location around it is just nice. The new station actually looks like a train station. The location is a little further away from the attractions, but I-4 is nearby. From the station, heading out southbound on New York Avenue and turning right onto Fairbanks, head straight...

    Question about Orlando area stations

As some have stated, not too many amenities near any of the Orlando stations compared to 30th Street. Winter Park however, you do have more food options when it comes to waiting for your incoming train. Last time I got off after my trip from NYC at the station I simply took a bus, which...

Andy Byfords plan for the MTA on 60 Minutes 10/21

I hope the MTA gets the funding needed to implement the modernization of the system.

    Hurricane Michael

Looking at all the damage and the freight cars on the ground, that was one hell of a storm. Storm of the century here. Strengthened to 155mph at landfall and without hyperbole, if it had another hour or more in the waters, there is no telling how strong it would of gotten before landfall. It's...

    Hurricane Florence 2018

Weather Channel is reporting 15 dead. I also don't find it funny to be making jokes about disasters. It's a bad idea in my opinion and it's only funny until it happens to you. I have a friend, who has family in North Carolina. They had a large tree land on their house. Real life people, not a joke.

    Brightline/Virgin Trains (FEC) Update

^ And the monorail idea essentially died last year on top of that.

    SunRail's southern expansion

This has nothing to do with Sunrail's second phase, but PTC will be completed on the Sunrail corridor by the year's end. It's being installed by Wabtec. https://www.progressiverailroading.com/ptc/news/Wabtec-inks-62-million-PTC-contract-with-SunRail--53927 While Sunrail has more hourly...

Elimination of diners on western Amtrak long distance trains?

That was in reference to Greyhound discontinuing routes at a rapid pace compared to the last time Amtrak had to discontinue a route, which was the Three Rivers back in 2005. Basically I was stating that at the rate things are going, Greyhound would be the first to go before Amtrak does.

Elimination of diners on western Amtrak long distance trains?

You'll be lucky Greyhound doesn't go out first before Amtrak gets a chance too. It's been years since Amtrak discontinued a route. As for the possible scenario with Diners, contacting senators and representatives is a good idea.

    SunRail's southern expansion

There is a link on the article to the new schedule, which is much more improved compared to the current schedule. It's not perfect, but a step in the right direction. http://www.mynews13.com/fl/orlando/news/2018/06/18/sunrail-releases-new-schedule-ahead-of-southern-expansion

    Brightline/Virgin Trains (FEC) Update

We know the outcome of Orlando service. Approved, so come 2021 looks like I'll meeting some of you. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/orange/os-brightline-gets-orange-ok-20180619-story.html

    Brightline/Virgin Trains (FEC) Update

Amtrak would take over 3-4+ hours from Tampa to those end points (provided the train isn't delayed). Megabus would be able to do the trip quicker. It's not really fair to compare Amtrak long distance trains to Brightline. If Amtrak had state supported trains in this state, it would be a better...

Miami Intermodal Center (f/k/a Miami Central Station)

About good ol' Lynx, going a bit off topic for this. You would have to take two buses 11/40 between OIA and the Amtrak station. The best bus service from an Amtrak station in this city is the one in Winter Park. The 102 operates every 15 minutes between Downtown Orlando and Fern Park. There are...

    Brightline/Virgin Trains (FEC) Update

Speaking of Orlando I took these today of the airport terminal via a bus. It looks really good.

Richard Anderson replacing Wick Moorman as Amtrak CEO

I too disagree. Maintaining a status quo that hasn't worked for long period of time in transportation is insane. Especially in today's changing world where more people are depending on transportation now then ever before. I'm also pretty sure Richard Anderson has heard all of the excuses as to...

    US Railcar

Last I heard, they've been out of service since the Brookville locomotives and Rotem cars went into service for Tri-Rail. They're also stored with surplus equipment too. Their condition is unknown.

    Brightline/Virgin Trains (FEC) Update

Glad Miami Central will be completed soon. I need to check the station in Orlando, I think that station is almost finished or close too. They just need to lay track up there. I'm not too far from the airport.
