    Cascades Route Question

It's actually complicated. There is an excellent book on the subject actually "Orphan Road, The Railroad Comes to Seattle." Most of it I believe is EX Northern Pacific, however it was jointly operated in the day by Great Northern, Union Pacific, and Northern Pacific

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

They cancelled the Silver Star No. 92 at Tampa and sent it back south to Miami. I'm shocked they didn't send it up the S Line non-stop to Jacksonville. Had 91 been doing that I would be buying a ticket for 91 tonight. I want that milage

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

The Portland train can never go under two coaches unless you add a conventional baggage car. This is due to the requirement to have ada seating in the lower level.

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

As someone who has posted these signs in train bathrooms I’m qualified to answer this. They just ignore the sign altogether. One time someone flushed the sign down the toilet. And this on a private car where the clientele are usually a bit more sophisticated and better educated on paper.

Could Transmashholding expand to North America?

Yes I’ve had a lot of time over the years and I’ve taught myself Russian. And I communicate with friends in Russia almost everyday in Russian. It’s not a super hard language once you get passed the alphabet.

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

I see what Crescent Zephyr says. I too am dreaming of future trips. However my next one won’t be on Amtrak. Being pent up line we are just makes a person want to travel.

Could Transmashholding expand to North America?

Да I would buy any Russian product. It’s generally significantly cheaper, and significantly more durable. It’s designed so that when it breaks it can easily be fixed. I also think I’m one of the few Russian speakers on this board.

Are California LD Trains in Limbo?

Can turn the zephyr at Reno and the Sunset at Tucson. Maybe the Chief at Flagstaff.

Viewliner II Part 2: Dining Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

I’ve heard a crew rumor from someone on one of the effected trains who said the diners were coming back. I’ll believe that when Gardner is on unemployment but not before.

    TRE loco far from home

There is a major locomotive shop up that way in the Tacoma/Seattle area. right now they have a locomotive from the Quebec North Shore and Labrador. That’s a land locked line.

I can see (name of train) from my window/porch/etc.

This is right behind my office. Amtrak: Silver Star No. 91/92. 91 usually is at 1:06 AM and 92 is 4:27 AM. However I have seen both from work at times. CSX: F765. Usually south between 9-11 AM and back north between 12-5 PM I can see this line from my house too but only in the winter when...

Capitol Limited and Washington Union Station

Generally for the most part the westbound leaves from the same track every day on the upper deck. And the eastbound will run into the lower deck because they can sit and wait around down there for a longer time. The lower level isn’t as busy as the upper.

Still around, and ready to ride the rails again!

I used the lounge in St Louis on a business class ticket last month. Just go to the agent and get the door code. Beware they don’t tend to announce the departing trains in there not to miss your train. We were the only ones in there.

I love that I’m part of the influence for this report. I am really looking forward to this one. I’ve wanted to ride the rails in Egypt for a long time, so you will give me some great insights on your marvelous sounding trip. You have encouraged me that I need to ride the Trans Siberian Railway...

    Amtrak Mesa to Phoenix 1980s

Valparaiso has an Amtrak commuter service into Chicago up until the 90s I believe. It was a descendent of a Pennsylvania Railroad commuter run.

    Increased Security Presence on Trains

Border patrol is allowed to work within 100 miles of an international border if I’m right. Which means they have quite a jurisdiction. Where Amtrak needs police is the food court in Union Station in DC. Sit down for two minutes and I can guarantee the homeless will come and beg for money.

    Bucket Chart?

Can we put the chart in the resources part of the website too. So I can find it easier when I want to look at it.

    Empire Builder Operational Questions

I don’t know BNSF’s ID system well enough to comment on what the ID is for them. But an example using a CSX ID for Amtrak’s Silver Star is like this. P091-18 is P for passenger. 091 is the train number. And -18 is the date it originated in the system. So in this case yesterday 2/18/2020...
