    Amtrak trains without Conductors?

Ohh ok. Still learning about these things.

    Amtrak trains without Conductors?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that Amtrak's rules of operation stipulate that in the absence of a Conductor or Assistant Conductor, the Engineer shall be the person in charge of the entire train. Which I believe is also how the freight railroads handle such situations. Has there ever...

I can see (name of train) from my window/porch/etc.

Capitol Limited and Washington Union Station

Oh ok. I might have seen the #30 instead of the #29 then. Given that the #29 goes north and then west, why doesn't it need an electric locomotive for the short stretch north of WAS?

Capitol Limited and Washington Union Station

Curious question: When the westbound Capitol Limited (#29) departs WAS, does it go south for a distance and then turn westward? I ask because, as far as I know, the locomotive(s) on the CL are not switched out at WAS. Likewise, does the #30 turn slightly northward before pulling into WAS...

NY Times: Anderson out, William Flynn in

Well this leaves me with some questions: Was there a "no confidence" vote by the board against Anderson (or something similar)? Was Anderson's term intended to be this short-lived all along? Will Flynn's railroad experience (whatever extent that is) help or hurt Amtrak? o_O

People will steal your stuff on amtrak right in front of you.

This thread reminds me of a certain now-deceased law enforcement officer who didn't put up with this kind of mess. Ehbowen will probably know who I'm referring to, because he and I are on a law enforcement forum where this late gentleman was a longtime member (and well-respected by both LE...

A 16-foot machete is slightly shorter than double the width of an Amtrak passenger car. Just sayin' :p

    Items stolen on Amtrak train

Hmmmm makes sense. Wish I had thought of that and posted in this thread accordingly. :) I've seen those types of posts before too.

    Items stolen on Amtrak train

I'm skeptical too. Just smells fishy to me. Which is why my previous two posts are a not-so-subtle attempt at sarcasm if you really take a look at them.

Still around, and ready to ride the rails again!

Welcome (back) Pianocat! Not sure if you've seen me here before, as I joined in late 2016. Happy rails to you!

    Items stolen on Amtrak train

These are good questions. Also, you probably should articulate the incident a little better. The OP seems a little "run-on".

    Nashville to Atlanta line

If I understand correctly, if the Nashville to Atlanta train comes to fruition, is it possible beyond that that the route could be extended from Atlanta to Savannah? If that happens would the route extension roughly follow the route of I-16 (ATL to SAV)? It would be great if the new train...
