    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

I don't doubt it in the least. I agree with you in principle, I'd very much not be surprised if the crisis was used to try to justify some of the network changes they may want to push and try to ram them through, but I just don't see the Zephyr as the train that's going to get axed - I think...

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

Made it to Lorton you mean. They had rental cars waiting and $100 vouchers to help them get home and I would imagine they got refunds as well. It was 89 affected cars.

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

I think the Zephyr will be ok and will be back. Now if the chief or Sunset Limited got suspended I'd be a little more concerned.

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

It won’t ever “end” this virus will continue to be a threat for a long time and will return seasonally most likely - as we know the flu kills many people yearly. The key is taking this lock down time to improve testing, and the ability to identify and isolate cases rapidly like is being done In...

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

regular customer service and station agents can do the penalty free cancellation - you don’t have to go to customer relations (you must do it over the phone only for points reservations - station agents can do it for purchased tickets.) fees still apply on website or on app.

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

It appears the Silvers resume service to MIA starting with tonight's southbound trains, but 3/30 and 3/31 auto train are canceled. I wonder what's going on there.

Silver Meteor to terminate at Jacksonville in 3/29

I would bet it’s related to the derailment as they are letting only 52/53 through currently. With some snow birds with seasonal rentals and leases coming to an end some will have no choice but to go home and those who are unwilling or able to make the whole drive may still take the train so...

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

While a very late arrival for the passengers aboard and probably many refunds, hopefully there were a couple aboard that enjoyed the rare mileage.

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

Although reading that article again I'm not sure I was correct - the article is somewhat confusing. It may be that several cars had vehicles but only one was in suitable shape to rerail and continue on. I guess we'll find out.....

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

52 is back on the move heading north.... Hopefully CSX will take pity on the passengers and crews tonight and give them a fairly incident free passage the rest of the way...

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

https://www.news-journalonline.com/news/20200326/amtrak-auto-train-derails-near-deland-no-one-injured This article seems to hint that most of the derailed cars were empties and that one car with actual vehicles is on its side. It seems they are sending a crane to lift and rerail that one car...

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

We'll see it was a fairly well attended train given the times (over 200 people board.) so I wouldnt be surprised to learn there are damaged autos.

Auto train derailment south of Deland 3/26

It appears several auto carriers from today’s northbound auto train derailed and overturned today just south of Deland station. Thankfully all passenger cars are still on the tracks. Train derails near DeLand

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

Amtrak’s bailout sounds like it’s basically to keep the employees getting their paycheck and to help cover related losses. I think the only trains getting any ridership right now are the Florida long distance trains.

    COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic: Amtrak-related Discussion

I think the long distance service will run until directed otherwise federally. To be honest I think part of this is the agreement employees and trying to keep as many working as possible. The more workers in any industry that have to go on furlough or are laid off the harder it is going to be to...

New dining options (flex dining) effective October 1, 2019

It’s a legitimate point and I agree it does sound like there could be some problems and I don’t have the answers, but the concept does seem to hint that this is the plan as does Amtrak’s recent five year plan. Perhaps they will operate the car with both LSAs working together.
