    "... no one rides Amtrak."

    That's true...to certain extent.

    Amtrak buses break down

Buses connecting Bakersfield and Los Angeles often break down causing long delay and connection failures. The service is operated by contractors who are friends with Caltrans officials. Go figure! Some Amtrak trains in California are run by the state's most corrupt agency.

High Speed Rail linking Russia and the U.S.?

Amtrak under the current management would be too incompetent to make a hot dog, let alone doing something at this magnitude. Beside why would the US want to "link" with Russia?

    Pittsburgh to Los Angeles

Nice trip report. I must say that there's definitely an attitude/cultural problem in Amtrak service in California. Now that I have tasted what train experience is like in California, I'd consider alternatives next time I visit the State.

    Slow Amtrak

In my recent visit to California I tried Amtrak train operated by Caltrans. It's not impressive at all. In fact, train travel in the US is worse than in many of third world countries. It's not difficult to see that they design it that way intentionally. It's slow and almost always late! Their...
