    Sights on the CZ route

Yep....the number I've heard is a million dollars per mile to build the highway through the canyon. Wb

    Bedrooms

Why am I not seeing any bedrooms listed for sale on the western long distance trains? Only roomettes. Even when looking out to March and April 2015! Wb

    Amtrak Menus

Hi All, Traveled SWC\LSL LAX to NYP two weeks ago in sleepers. The menu selections during the 4 day\3 night trip were beyond poor. It used to be exciting to get to the diner, but now it's "let's go get it over with" Nothing to look forward to. The best option for Amtrak would be to contract...

Amenities Being Eliminated from Long Distance Routes

Being a Californian, we expect to have good wine with dinner. We always bought and least one, sometime 2 bottles of wine at the wine tasting events. A good selection around $20.00 The dining car staff has always stored our purchased wine until dinner, and cheerfully uncorked and poured it when...

    ATSF 3751

The San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society ran ATSF steam and 2 Amtrak units with PV out of LAX this AM to Parker, Az. Some good videos posted at LINK.

    Sea-Tac to SEA

What I have done a few times when renting at SeaTac, is pick the car up at the airport and drop it off at their downtown lot. When dropping the car of downtown, ask them to give you a ride over to the Amtrak station. Or call ahead to make sure they will. This had always worked great for me. I've...

    Car rental

Budget and a few others have rental lots downtown Denver. I've flow into DEN, rented a car at the Denver Airport, and dropped it off downtown Denver if I'm riding the rails out of town. I've walked from the Budget lot to the station. Not a killer walk if you are in reasonable shape, about 8...

    Luggage Storage on Viewliners

Thanks for all your replys. We're in roomettes on both the SWC and the LSL, but boarding in VRV which isn't staffed. So I guess the best solution is the store the large bags in the lower rack on the Chief, and check them as checked luggage when we change trains in ChiTown. Wb

    Luggage Storage on Viewliners

Is there any large suitcase luggage storage rack areas available on Viewliner sleepers, similar to the lower level luggage racks on Superliners? Headed east shortly and my wife always packs like she's going away for months! Thanks Wb.

Amtrak and baseball in Southern California

Yes, this is possible. The Metrolink here in LA. has a posting on their website homepage about "baseball trains" for the Dodgers. It also stops at Anaheim stadium as does the Amtrak Surfliners. Look at this: www.metrolinktrains.com Have fun!! Wb

Breakfast if Boarding CZ5 in Denver?

Yes, breakfast is served after boarding in Den. I travels this route last week. A blizzard over the Sierra as we were following the snow plow all the way. Just a reminder, the boarding at Denver is moved about an 1/8 mile northwest where the old station is now, and across the tracks. Directly...

    Corking Fee?

Hi guys, This may have been addressed in the past somewhere. If a sleeping car PAX brings his\her own bottle of wine to the dining car to have with dinner, does the dining car staff frown on this practice, encourage it with a corking fee, or what? I know Amtrak would rather sell their own wines...

    The Great Blizzard of 2011

Here in Southern California it was around 70 today, but with the windchill factor, about 68! Wb

    Going to seattle on CS

We stay at a La Quinta that is a short cab ride from the station. Across the street from the hotel is a Budget car rental outlet if you want to get a car the next morning. This is very convienent as I usually drop the car at SeaTac and fly out. Wb

    Fountain of Youth

Guys, Thinking about an overnight stay in Glenwood Springs on an upcoming trip out to Sacramento from Denver, to soak in the "fountain of youth" Anybody done this? What is the most convienent hotel to stay in, regarding the relationship to the Amtrak station and hot springs pool? How long do I...

    Problem with inner ear dizziness

I know of several people that have had this problem in Albuquerque, and in Denver........It's usually associated with the high altitude and thin air for those that come from the "flatlands" . ABQ is over 5000 feet, as is Denver. In a few days, one will adjust to the higher elevation. I live at...

"Flyaway Bus" Service from LAX to Union Station-Anyone Used

Want to talk about a scary ride......Take the EL Orange line from the stop close to CUS to Midway Field. You'll want to bring your pistol along!! Wb

    Sacramento Calif. Arriving late

Speaking only for myself, I'd walk a block to the Holiday Inn, have a nightcap in the bar, and get a good nights sleep for the next day's train ride. Staying up all night is not my idea of having fun! Wb

    Strange Wine Pricing

Yes, it's way overpriced.......supply and demand....just like on an airplane at 40,000 feet. If the train you are on offers wine tasting, it's your opportunity to pick up a full bottle at a reasonable price for dinner. The dining car crew will be happy to keep it for you until you show up in...

Does LAX have a First Class Lounge ? LAX Safe late at night?

Inside the terminal you will be fine. Just don't leave as outside is a different story. It really is a short night as Metrolink starts bringing in the downtown commuters very early. Wb, So. Cal.
