Chicago Metra Electric District (MED) speed increases?

Came across this article - from an advocacy group - about MED getting a pretty massive speed increase at some point in the future. I know that when the new Highliners came online a few years back, one of the supposed advantages was better braking which would increase speeds, but I don't know...

WMTA question (DCA to Crystal City)

Hopefully this is the best place for my quick question. I'm going to Crystal City tomorrow from DCA and it looks like a reasonable walk or one stop on the Metro - suggestions, advice (have another destination, but that's by... ack... car since it's not transit accessible)?

    Trapped on train at CUS?

For those of you who don't have a high opinion of the Chicago staff this will only reinforce it... Came across this strange story this morning - and not exactly sure what happened here, but this was on the local news...

New York City Subway derailment 1/4/24

Doesn't sound horrible (no fatalities luckily) but 20 something people injured... https://apnews.com/article/subway-derailment-new-york-city-ffb9adca28da68ce25bb8059d2c25d78

    U.S./Canada border crossing discussion

Here's a slightly unrelated question, but, in modern times, has the border crossing to Canada ever been speedy (even in the 80's I remember it being somewhat slow) in either direction or has it always been sticky?

NYC (MTA) - W Trains not running

Anybody have more info about this than I've seen here? https://www.nbcnewyork.com/traffic/transit-traffic/w-train-service-suspended-after-subway-cars-vandalized-mta/4675048/

I-95 collapse effect on SEPTA and Amtrak

Anybody know - or cares to speculate I suppose - on how this will affect Amtrak or how Amtrak will react? https://www.npr.org/2023/06/11/1181554188/i-95-collapse-fire-philadelphia

    DeKalb pushing for Metra expansion?

Found this article via another site today. Could be an interesting expansion for Metra and Illinois if anything were to come of it. https://www.shawlocal.com/daily-chronicle/news/local/2023/04/10/dekalb-releases-early-results-of-metra-commuter-train-feasibility-study/

    Norrbotniabanan

Speaking of rail extensions, it sounds as if the extension of the Botniabanan, the higher speed 'coastal' * railway in Northern Sweden, the Norrbotniabana (North Bothnia Railway/Line) has begun at least preliminary construction from the end of the Botniabana in Umeå towards extending to its end...

Restoration of services lost during Dr. Beeching cuts

The new Inverness Airport Station opened earlier this month near the site of a station closed during the Beeching Axe (or Cuts, if you prefer). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverness_Airport_railway_station Geoff Marshall visits (haven't watch all the way through, but I'm sure bin bags...

A briefly abbreviated trip report from London

So, as promised a while back, here's a brief synopsis of my London trip a few weeks back.... The Metra & CTA ride out to O'Hare was as expected, Metra, clean and pleasant, CTA, filthy and blech (cigarette butts, stale cigarette smoke scented seats, etc). I travelled with one friend and met our...

Any updates on TfL and other SE England potential strikes? (2022-23)

Has anybody got any good info on planned strikes on the Underground/TfL services and other rail in SE England for next week? I did a cursory search in some English newspapers but nothing concrete yet, so if anybody has a good source to keep an eye let, do post it!

    Denmark's newest urban rail system

Odense, Denmark's third city, just had the opening of their new light-rail network, the Odense Letbane a few days ago. Just for the record, Odense is just right around 200k urban population.

Bank Station reopens after rebuild - London

AND the Bank Station on the Northern Line has opened a day early as well! Looking forward to seeing your pictures, I've been watching Jago Hazzard and Geoff Marshall's videos about the reopenings - Geoff in particularly is giddy about the "purple train" as he calls it.

    Electric and Hybrid road vehicles

The whole Tesla (the automotive) phenomena is quite interesting: it drove a lot of introductions of electric cars and research - especially from European luxury brands, witness his new factory opening in Berlin, who were losing sales, yet I'm hearing that those very same buyers are going back to...

    Metra Conductor robbed

This depressing bit of news just showed up about my line (luckily I'm WFH at the moment), glad the suspect was apprehended: https://wgntv.com/news/chicagocrime/man-arrested-after-metra-train-conductor-robbed-at-gunpoint-downtown/

    New Illinois service

Thanks! I'm hoping that the new Illinois services start soon as well, I haven't seen anything new on them for a while and when I tried googling to see if there was anything new I couldn't find anything much.
