    Crescent delay Nov 14

Does anyone know why train 20-14 lost about 3 1/2 hrs between Gainesville and Toccoa, GA? I know there have been some issues with newly instituted PTC between Alexandria and New Orleans, but a delay of this magnitude suggests a lot more than a PTC failure. Andy

    Amtrak RFP for new/rebuilt locomotives

Amtrak just issued a press release advising that an RFP has been issued for purchase or rebuilding of 50-75 diesel-electric locomotives to replace the P42. Would this be necessary if the rebuild program at Beech Grove had continued past ?2009 or whenever it was discontinued? Andy

Nevertheless there have been no speed upgrades, either on curves or anything about the 79 MPH maximum speed...

    ITCS out on Michigan Line

The Incremental Train Control System (ITCS) has been out of service on Amtrak's Kalamazoo-Porter Michigan Line since July 24, reducing speed of trains from 110 to 79 MPH and adding about 10-15 min to running times. Does anyone know why the ITCS is out and what is being done to get it back? Andy

NS Meltdown over the former Southern?

For the past two months Amtrak's CRESCENT has been losing an hour or more every day between Atlanta and New Orleans - very few on time trains. Looking at NS yard dwell time postings http://www.railroadpm.org/Home/RPM/Performance%20Reports/NS.aspx shows drastic dwell time increases this month at...
