There is an addendum to your account of the refurbished General's tour in the 1960s. The engine was at the center of an ownership tug of war between the L&N and the city of Chattanooga. The details of the second hijacking of the General are pretty well covered in this short article. As a kid in...
If I am already in bad mood I might say something nasty to them... So what should I expect?
If you said something nasty to me then you should expect the same sort of reply but significantly escalated.
That said, I would also change seats for the sake of your family becasue I was raised to be...
This morning's local paper, the Times-Free Press, has a good article about the aftermath of the incident.
Tennessee transportation officials said it's too early to tell what impact the loss of a concrete bridge beam destroyed Tuesday in a collision between a Norfolk Southern freight train and...
I share that allergy with you. I've had my eyes swell shut within 30 minutes of exposure to cats along with a runny nose and uncontrollable coughing and sneezing. I'm not anti-cat either. I just don't want to be exposed to one if I can help it especially considering what rail fares cost these...
I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who enjoys doing this. Last time I was in DC, I rode several different Metro lines just to ride them for the same reasons you listed.
Per CNN, the 2 troops were from Appleton, Wisconsin with 8 adult leaders. They were on their way back home for the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. None of them were hurt (thank goodness) and they assisted other passengers who needed help. National headquarters is trying to arrange...
Sadly, here's a story about a lesser known railroad museum that did not survive the pandemic.

Same for me. I booked our April trip on the Crescent from Birmingham to New Orleans and back last November. Both car and room number were on the app but I entered the information on a note in my phone as a back up. All was for naught as life got in the way and we had to cancel the trip. 😞
IMHO, they earned the title "The Greatest Generation." Every male that age in my family, every one of my male teachers that age, every one of my church leaders , when I was growing up were WWII vets. They were all heroes to me and still are.
That happened once to me at the Motel 6 in Clarksville, TN. My prepaid reservation was given to someone else so the semi-habitable Motel 6 paid for my one night stay in a much nicer Holiday Inn which was the only facility that had rooms. I was shocked to say the least. Turned out there was some...
I love the cartoonist Bob Thaves comment about Astaire and Rogers.
"Sure he was great, but don't forget that Ginger Rogers did everything he did, backwards… and in high heels."
To paraphrase Forrest Gump, "Riding Amtrak is like a box of cocolates. You never know what you are going to get." And that's all I'll say about that. 🙂
THANKS for posting this URL. While it may be a mudane trip for others, I found it really interesting. It's been years since we have visited NYC and ridden the subway which is one of the more interesting parts of our trip.
The older I've gotten the more willing I have become to tip delivery people who do a good job. It is harder now to lift heavy objects and a good delivery person is a godsend. The same for a good repairman or any other tradesman who gives good service.
Thanks for the information. It also clearified something else for me, what the colors represent. I knew the map used a color code but being "chromomatically challenged" I can only see 2 of the 5 colors. At least I now know what those 2 mean.
