    Trump and Amtrak/Budget cutting funding

I was relieved to see Amtrak was taken off the chopping block. I have written my senator, and said I was worried that long distance trains could be taken away. In my letter, I said we need a balanced transit system. A few weeks ago, I also wrote a letter to President Trump asking him to...

Positive article on AGR Credit Cards

I posted earlier, and realized I made a mistake. I have quite a few points, but I also have 2 coupons. What are they for? I hope no one was confused by my previous post.

    Thanks for all the information.

Positive article on AGR Credit Cards

I've had the Amtrak card for quite a while now. I'm planning a 2-3 day trip with a sleeper car. According to the Amtrak website, the points I have accrued would just about pay for the train and the sleeper car. But, I have a question: I have 2 points. What are they good for? Thanks in advance.

    using points

I'm planning a round trip to Seattle from L.A. I have quite a few points. I'm confused by the Amtrak website. When I looked up a bedroom, the website shows it would take about 49,000 points. Is that number for one way, or round trip? I only wonder because that would just about get rid of...

    Phoenix AZ?

I have been amazed for years that Amtrak has a train to Tucson and not Phoenix. Tucson is about half the size of Phoenix. Why don't they have a train going there?

    Phoenix AZ?

I took Amtrak from L.A. to Flagstaff, and then rented a car to drive to Phoenix. The train from L.A. to Flag was a nice trip. It strikes me as funny that Amtrak has a train to Tucson. That city is smaller than Phoenix. I wonder why.

FY2017 Federal budget news is good!

I'm glad it looks like Amtrak is going to get the money it needs to survive. Almost a month ago, I wrote a letter to President Trump asking him to reconsider his plan to gut Amtrak. I also wrote to our Senator asking her to vote against the cuts. I think some people discount the power of a...

    AGR II

I have built quite a few points on the Amtrak guest rewards credit card. Is it easy to cash in those points? This will be my first trip since accumulating those points.

    Trump and Amtrak/Budget cutting funding

I wrote a letter to President Trump asking him to reconsider cutting Amtrak funding. I haven't heard back from him, but I'm sure I'm not alone in requesting to keep Amtrak with a good budget. I also wrote a letter to our Senator in California asking her to vote against the budget concerning...

    Amtrak under President Trump. (worried)

I read Trump's budget for Amtrak. He seems to want to get rid of Federal funding for long distance train travel. That could decimate the system. But, those of us who ride Amtrak should Email, write, or telephone our representatives in Washington. If enough people do that, perhaps Congress...

    new President

I'm wondering how our President-elect feel about Amtrak. Has anyone heard? In the past, Republicans tended to try and bury Amtrak. I hope this doesn't happen this time.

Reno cut back service on the California Zephyr?

I saw nothing about the cutback on the Amtrak website. Unless this is a brand new change.

    A favorite Amtrak train

My favorite train is the Coast Starlight. The scenery is beautiful especially between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. I've taken it beyond there to Chico, CA. My next trip would be from L.A. to Seattle, and get a sleeper car. Ideal!

Who in the world are you?

I'm 65, retired. I live in So Cal. My 1st train ride was going from L.A. to New York, D.C & the East Coast. This was in '63. Before Amtrak came on the scene. We took different railroads across the country. The Union Pacific, the Southern Pacific, the B & O, the C & O, the Pennsy, Santa...

Family travel- how essential is a roomette?

While it seems safe enough in the station during the day, I have encountered some rather strange people out in the smoking areas who I would hate to see in the station, especially at night. If it were me, I would get a hotel room for the amount of time you would be there. This would add cost...

Why is Amtrak coach more expensive than flying?

I agree flying is sometimes cheaper. But, my wife will not fly. We either drive or take the train. We find the train a relaxing way to go. It's nice to sit back and watch the scenery go by, while enjoying an adult beverage and or having a meal.

    Which Is Your Favorite Station

:) I know we're only supposed to vote for the top three. But, my favorite is L.A. Union Station. I just like the looks of it. Plus it's user friendly.

    Passenger service pre-Amtrak.

In 1963, I took the train with my folks from L.A. to New York, D.C, Philadelphia, Boston, and other East Coast cities. We rode the Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, Santa Fe, B&O, C&O across the country. I was young (16), but remember it fondly. The service was good, food was good, and the...
