    They cannot get rid of the Amfleet coaches fast enough for me. Ugly 1970s design with miserable little windows. Off to the scrapyard with them!

    Amtrak Business Class

    Some value, but not quite enough unless the train is busy or sold out. There is little appreciable difference in the quality of the seats and free soda isn’t enough to automatically justify the price difference. A qualified yes only.

    Amtrak taking first step on Meridian Speedway LD service

    Wasn’t there a proposal in the 1990s for this route called the Magnolia States? It almost happened, but the failure of a postal contract was the stated reason for the tabling of the proposed route. I sincerely hope that this goes through this time.

    Greyhound is grim. Avoid it if you can possibly do so.

    Good riddance! I’ve always despised the stingy windows and ungraceful styling of the Amfleet cars.

    Amtrak BidUp (Bidding for Upgrades - Business Class, First Class, and Sleepers)

    I have bid $110 for an upgrade on the Acela from Washington to New York Penn Station on Thursday. The base fare was only $150, so I’m not sure this will be successful. We shall see.     New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

    Airlines simply do not provide inexpensive, or even reasonably priced service to smaller cities. Perhaps the service will be subsidized, but it will never be cheap. A train is a good investment for most places, contrary to popular belief.
