Mask Situation inside Chicago Union Station

This is disappointing. They were being very strict about masks on the Crescent and COMO and in the stations a couple of weeks ago. Although we are vaccinated, I would not feel nearly as good about riding if Amtrak is not going to enforce the Federal requirement.

Upcoming Amtrak LD Schedule Changes (2021)

It made for a pretty crowded station. I felt for the agent who called for boarding. She had no mic and had to yell instructions through her mask. It went fine, though. I saw only one person almost miss the Sunset and have to run for it.

    Disobedience on Amtrak

They are super clear about the mask requirement and diligent about reminding people. I embarassed myself by walking into the dining car without mine once, and the attendant hollered down the car, "Gotta have your mask!" I said, "Oh, shoot!" and wheeled around to go get it, and everyone in the...

    Worst Amtrak Station?

Speaking of stations, we passed by McComb, MS a day or so after the fire last week. I understand they were able to save some of the railroad memorabilia, but the building is likely a total loss. Sad.

New member, soon to be first time traveler via rail

We very carefully adhered to the carry-on luggage guidelines, only to find that people carry on massive luggage and put it in the downstairs rack. So far there has still been plenty of room, unlike in England where your bag is likely to be buried under bags stacked four high when you get to your...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Our conductor on the Crescent had a distinct New Orleans accent, but I don't know about the rest of the crew.

Viewliner II Part 4: Sleeping Car production, delivery, deployment

Is there a way to lock the doors in the open position? We experienced the door slamming shut (or open) and finally decided to just close and lock it to avoid that. But there are times when I would like to have the door open get some air circulating.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

We just returned from a trip that included legs on the Crescent and the CONO. It is clear from the situation in New Orleans and Chicago that the service/hospitality industry is still reeling from changes brought about by Covid. So many restaurants are shut down still, and others are working with...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

I rode the Crescent yesterday from Birmingham to New Orleans. The train was completely sold out. By Hattiesburg, we were running an hour late. I had not planned on needing dinner on the train, but by 6:00 I was getting a little hungry and decided to check out the cafe car. Silly me. It was...

    New Amtrak Covid Policy

There were few cabs and they were mixed in with Lyft and Uber and a bunch of guys with vans who just seemed to be freelancing. The guy who picked us up was honest, but there was no license, no meter, none of the things I’m used to in a cab. He only took cash. There is potential for some sketchy...

    New Amtrak Covid Policy

I boarded the Crescent at Birmingham yesterday and rode to New Orleans. The train was completely sold out and the staff did a great job of assigning seats in coach and getting us loaded quickly. They were well prepared for full capacity in that respect. I had not received the email with the...

    New Amtrak Covid Policy

You are the second person who has reported people hitting them up for money in Coach. I would be unspeakably uncomfortable if that happened to me! o_O It happens on the subway, but I didn't expect that on Amtrak. I'm riding the southbound Crescent later today and it is supposedly at 90%...

Question on the Procedure for Pre-Ordering Meals PRIOR TO boarding a long-distance train

I got an email with a link to preselect. I think it came about two weeks or so before my trip. I didn't do it yet (not very exciting) and I just got another reminder yesterday for my trip on CONO on Tuesday. I have heard that you are not locked in to what you preselect, but can change on the...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Sleepers are allegedly sold out for my trip next week on the CONO. And the leg of my trip on the Crescent is at 80% in coach. Seems like it is time to open up seating in the cafe. I know, I know, eating with masks off, etc. But people eat with masks off in coach, too.

Upcoming Amtrak LD Schedule Changes (2021)

Oh, I bet that's it. It probably changes in between my trip down and my trip back home.

Upcoming Amtrak LD Schedule Changes (2021)

Wait. The southbound Crescent schedule changed as well? I'm booked on it on 5/31 and I didn't get a revised ticket.
