Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-2024)

That's good to hear, though to be honest, I'm not convinced the vending machines will actually materialize. There isn't exactly a ready pool of contractors with expertise maintaining and stocking vending machines used on a moving train.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-2024)

For some arcane/inane bureaucratic reason, the California Charger locomotives' paint scheme doesn't match up to the CA Venture colors, even though both were built by Siemens: That navy swoosh at the rear of the unit is neither the right height nor width to line up with the car's windows, and...

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

I've had the same experience as @Trollopian, and based on my somewhat cursory research (leaving for LA Trainfest tomorrow), it sounds like the Preferred (fee) Amtrak card has been a World Mastercard for some time, and the no-fee card now is as well. (As opposed to a lower-tier "standard"...

    Sunset times along train line

At the risk of inducing high-school math/SAT flashbacks (a train leaves Chicago at...), does anybody know a simple way to determine when darkness falls along a particular train line on a particular date? Of course, I can look up the sunset time at a particular location, but a moving train...

    Timetable Websites

In my former life as an editor, I can't count the number of times I had a database report in mind to simplify the publishing process...but we editors were trapped in MS Word, and the designers lived in InDesign, and databases never entered the ring, at least in the houses I experienced. Anyone...

    Timetable Websites

I've made substantial progress laying out a California Rail Timetable modeled on the ERT, including commuter trains and Thruway buses since North American services are so sparse compared to Europe. One of my goals was to make it clearer how the various services in the state fit together (despite...

Amtrak Station food courts and restaurants close to stations

Apparently Sacramento finally has a tenant for the refurbished restaurant space, Sourdough & Co. RailYard Coffee was also supposed to be opening in the station, but their social media looks pretty quiet. (I haven't been up there since the start of the pandemic to verify.) It looks like the...
