    Sleeper accommodation discussion

You can do it yourself. It involves releasing a pedal on each seat and pushing the backs down. The mattress is kept on the bunk, and you lay it over the seat cushions. The SCA will ask what time in the evening he could do it for you, or if you want to take that on yourself. Typically...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Where are you catching those shots? Before my recent trip, I tried catching the trains going by some of the web cams, but it was always a game of timing. And the sites went off air for some problem. I haven't checked if they are back up. Here is a spotting picture resource...

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

The SCA will do that if the passenger didn't use the Checked bag service at the station. I'm sure some number of first timers don't realize that full sized luggage does not fit well in roomettes. And the SCA does what he can. Back in November, there was a flat wheel on the end of the Boston...

Also note that the area where the toilet used to be has some space for small luggage.

    Lake Shore Limited discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

My experience last November: Westbound Departing Boston, I was given a choice of a Cafe meal for lunch (I took the burger) [Note there is no diner on this section, so no Flex meals are available} After joining the NYC section in Albany, you have access to a Dining car and Flex meals for dinner...

Canceling vs modifying a ticket bought with points

I'm not sure I understand your experiences. When you "buy" a trip with points, a specific number of points is charged to (subtracted from) your account. The number quoted does vary with their yield management, just like $, until the time you book it. Then that's what you "pay" and it's set...

Canceling vs modifying a ticket bought with points

It depends on how much the replacement trip "costs" vs. the original booking. If it's more, then you have to pay the difference. If it's less, then they may hold back 10% on the refund.

Lesser known Railroad Museums in small towns

    Parking at RTE (Boston-Route 128)

That's a good question, I think their used to be before the construction started a couple years ago.. (was not a user back then). since then there have been changes in how MA wants to charge for T station parking. Looking at Anderson/Woburn, there is a short term commuter lot that gets charged...

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

Took the Meteor south on 11/23 : 10 car was VL1, 11 VL2. Now on northbound Star. Same deal. Spotted a lone VL1 in the yard as we departed Miami. With the return of Traditional dining I was concerned I wouldn't get a butter cake for dessert, but the DCA still has them for lunch.

    Parking at RTE (Boston-Route 128)

Parked in RTE 11/23 returning Sunday. They have separated the lower from upper decks. Enter from University Ave to the uppers. Using PayByPhone and hitting the website every 5 days.

    Sleeper accommodation discussion

On the Silver Meteor about a week ago, the VL2 roomette door would rattle in the frame near the trash door. At first I stuffed some of the curtain in the gap, but discovered that a coffee cup lid worked better. Have used the wash cloth to dampen a rattling sink on a VL1 last year. We should...

Empire Builder and Daylight Saving Time

Similarly, I'm boarding the Lake Shore Limited Nov 25 morning in Toledo. The previous stop was 1:45 am in Bryan OH. If on schedule it should arrive in TOL at 2:55 am, which is now 1:55am and I'm guessing they'll sit there until their scheduled 3:15 dep. I am also concerned when my Uber driver...

Canceling vs modifying a ticket bought with points

I'm trying to explain to my wife our options if we cannot make it to a train, because of other transport delays. I'm buying the tickets (sleeper) with points, and if unable to show, would likely want to reschedule for the next day. I would likely not know until within 24 hours. It seems that...

AGR FNBO Credit Card discussion 2023 H2 -2024

Those type of charges are typically indicative of setting up a new credit card relationship. They are testing the card number to see if it works. Did you just put this card into Google Pay? or set up a subscription?

    Upgrade/Companion/Lounge Coupons: seeking, available, questions

Yes, there is a Print option, if you click "View" next to the coupon. I have a Print to PDF driver installed. So that works.

    Upgrade/Companion/Lounge Coupons: seeking, available, questions

How does one "gift" a lounge pass. Do I screen shot the QR code and email it to my family member? Is there a better way?

    Downeaster discussion

That is just south of the Andover station, where there are two crossings right next to each other off an multi-way intersection (Pearson St, and Essex St, meeting Railroad St.) it's possible that the driver was waiting for vehicle traffic to clear when the gates started to come down. Then...
