    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

And already, someone is suing Amtrak. Isn't this the same ambulance chaser from the Montana incident?

Yes, that's who it was! She did another one today and I've been very impressed with her and her team's response.

I agree. I love the Superliners, but they do seem to be a bigger tipping risk.

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

Looking at the helicopter video again today, it's amazing to me how much force was actually stopped when the train hit the truck. Some of those railroad ties are angled away from the track, which I can't imagine is easy to do. The train basically hit the truck and almost immediately toppled...

    Southwest Chief derailment (June 2022)

I also saw the video from the farmer yesterday. Sounds like the locals have pointed this out as a problem for YEARS and have gotten nowhere. Pretty sad this will be what it takes to fix this intersection.

People are going to want every crossing to have arms, bells, and whistles. How about drivers just have some common sense?

    Seattle King Street Station question

I did this a couple years ago (eek, it's been that long?) and I asked someone how I would get to the light rail, and they were quite helpful. Didn't expect to come up the stairs to see what was then CenturyLink Field RIGHT THERE in front of me.

    Amtrak Tracker issues

I hadn't looked at the ASM tracker in a while and I was shocked to see the website update! My only feedback is that it doesn't open specific trains in new tabs anymore, but that's minor. Otherwise, it's awesome!

    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E)

I'll have to go down and see it once it gets further west!

Of all the things to steal, chainsaws?

    Midwest Rail Plan Final Report

I'm not sure why they are pushing for a Dubuque connection when Chicago to Iowa City would be a home run...so many students at the U of I are from Chicago.

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

I see the first lawsuit has been filed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you sort of turn over some rights to the travel vessel (train, plane, auto) when you buy a ticket? Sounds like a pretty terrible situation to go through though...

So how does that 11 hr 58 minute layover in NOLA work?

I'll put in a word for hostels. I stayed at one in Chicago when the EB got there in the afternoon and then I was getting on the LS the next morning. I knew I wasn't going to explore much of Chicago (I had plans in KC and Santa Fe) so I got a cute hostel four blocks away for about $30. It was...

Am I the only person who likes to travel long distances in coach?

I'm so happy to hear it! Have a great time. ☺️

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Oh, wow. I feel a little weird thinking about this because if I was on this train, I'd have been in the cars that were still upright. (I'm along the Seattle route.) Yikes.

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Ohhhhh, so one coach and one sleeper? I've only ridden that specific route once - I take it the lineup is atypical from the east bound train?
  18. A

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

I should say, the coaches are a ways back from the rest of the train, not the SSL.

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

So it look like the SSL and the two coach cars are on their sides and quite a ways back from the rest of the train and sleeper/dining cars stayed upright? Yikes.
