Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

Yeah that's fair. I don't find the traffic into MCO from the east to be bad at all, even compared to Orlando in general, but I have different standards for crazy traffic after fifteen years in Miami.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

Yeah, someone I know is taking Brightline from Ft. Lauderdale to Orlando with two kids and all their accoutrements this week and I haven't figured out why; my speculation is they're being picked up by Brevard family at MCO and going somewhere past that. I do wonder how Cocoa to MCO catchment is...

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

I definitely could see a lot of value in those stations for airport connections out of Stuart, putting it in the catchment for MCO, and possibly PBI, FLL, and MIA depending on the quality of Brightline's last mile services in South Florida. It'd be nice to get from Stuart to Berlin with two...

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

Going by the other links, it looks like any Brightline Tampa service would run through the “Sunshine Corridor” regardless, but of course Brightline stations are way more expensive than SunRail’s.

    Miami South Dade Commuter Service

Going by the property appraiser’s site it’s CSX and the old Seaboard Coast Line.

    Miami South Dade Commuter Service

Such a bummer every time I go through Government Center.

    Miami South Dade Commuter Service

We’ll have to see if they hire the same concrete company as the airport’s D concourse APM in ten years when someone makes a decision.

    Miami South Dade Commuter Service

I feel like Metromover to FIU would be infuriating? The existing mover is an airport-style APM, slow with low capacity. W 42nd Ave/LeJeune (where the airport and MIC are roughly) to W 107th Ave (FIU) is over six miles, a distance the heavy Metrorail system covers roughly between Dadeland South...

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

The pattern since Miami opened has been to do major cities, and then infill.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

The family chat is excited about this. In terms of service, I’d guess Cocoa and Stuart might get express trains that skip Aventura but not super-expresses that skip Boca?

Tri-Rail to Miami Central and (Miami) Northeast Corridor

I wonder if this is going to have walking or APM service to the air terminals; the existing Tri-Rail stop on the far side of I-95 from FLL isn’t that convenient.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

My guess is most of those passengers are commuting and had stuff to do and maybe not ideal light for looking at the backs of warehouses and traffic-jammed streets.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

I saw it on January 16 at the WPB station while I was northbound to Orlando, and I feel like I've seen it online in 2023 too. It's not in the Miles in Transit or Alan Fisher videos from the start of the Orlando service, and not in Jeb Brooks' race either.

    Amtrak into Miami Airport Station

And if I was building an airside APM for the expensive air terminal one of the big three legacy carriers needs, I’d use concrete that lasts more than 20y, but neither of us work for Miami-Dade. There’s a lot of rank incompetence in government here.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

It’s only costly if it’s a ticket they would’ve otherwise been able to sell. They probably have a big spreadsheet of flight reliability and how many empty seats are leaving each station, and at least a vague idea of how many passengers are relying on that guaranteed connection.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

Going by work chat, it closed Friday afternoon and completely gridlocked downtown.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

When I was up there last week they had Palmetto Ave closed (which is how I like to get to my usual downtown Melbourne destination) for signal work, so there're probably some lingering issues or continuing work going on.

Tri-Rail to Miami Central and (Miami) Northeast Corridor

It‘s not an extra $2.25 like Metrorail, a same platform connection without fare gates or stairs, and an express ride that doesn’t make a half dozen other stops where delays can accumulate. Both services block it out at 20 minutes on the schedule, but only one of them is putting in the effort to...

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

I wonder if the 30 seconds is stretching it? If they come down too early, people waiting are going to get impatient and when car drivers get impatient they get dangerous.

Brightline Trains Florida discussion 2024 Q1

The crossing at Pineda Causeway was separated over the last few years, but not because of Brightline specifically, just because of FL-404's extension all the way to I-95, widening it from two to four lanes, and its role as access to barrier islands and an air force base: Pineda bridge over...
