    Winter Storm 2024 cancellations

9 hour Seattle to Portland Trip on Cascades... Was on the Cascades 503 Sunday morning, the day after a huge blizzard in Portland knocking out power to 150k although conditions weren't great on Sunday. This was the new early morning departure out of Seattle at 5:55am. Train was quite empty, I'd...

    Rail stations at Airports

Once you travel to Amsterdam Airport you'll never look at airport rail links the same. Literally a massive train station below baggage claim with frequent trains to all corners of the country. Also took me 30 minutes to travel from Central Station in Amsterdam to my airplane GATE. We have a long...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Wow that's actually not bad at all. I remember in 2019 paying $40 for just the signature steak in the dining car and thinking it would be so much more now. IMO for a three course meal including steak and an alcoholic beverage that's surprisingly good. Amtrak also does make a very good steak.

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Curious about the dining car non-sleeper menu prices now? Prices were very high before, are they astronomical now for paying by cash?

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Oh right, that train is using that flex dining. Well this great news about the dining car may make a trip from Seattle to Glacier NP via coach much more likely for me!

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

If I'm not mistaken the second track would be added later for much of the Orlando route but is very much planned for int he construction, has there been any talk of when it would be needed?

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Oh great news, thanks! Finally! Makes the long distance trains more of a consideration for me in travel (not shelling out $500+/night for the smallest room). Curious if the City of New Orleans might be considered one of those, planning to make a trip on it around Memorial Day Weekend?

2023 Outlook for the Intercity Bus Industry in the United States

Its amazing to me how much Greyhound has cut back just in recent years, its almost completely unusable for anyone even considering it. A lot of things with Amtrak might need to be reconsidered in light of this, especially around Thruway. So many major cities have lost their downtown stops or...

    Caltrain in serious trouble

The financial issues of Caltrain and BART (along with BART's completely dysfunctional management issues) might allow for the respective organizations to dissolve and re-emerge into new singular Bay Area regional transit agencies given these are the two main regional transit players in the Bay...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Any updates on allowing coach passengers to dine in the dining car again like pre-COVID? SO much feet dragging on this, keep hearing over and over that they are about to make the change and never do, its not like this requires building track or stations, its a policy change, he||, they even...

Adding frequency to Long Distance (LD) service

What about splitting the Crescent at Meridian with one leg continuing to New Orleans and the other leg to Dallas/Fort Worth? Just like how the Empire Builder splits in Spokane with a leg to Portland and a leg to Seattle?

Winter Park (Colorado) Express is back

Curious how reliable this train is for connecting travel? If return ETA into Union Station is 6:40pm would a 9:00pm flight out of DIA be advisable?

Haven't ridden Caltrain in a while - stopovers and maximum fares on Clipper

Depends how long you are planning to stopover but I would say just tap in at your start station, and don't tap out until your final station while being aware of the 4 hours. Unless there is a rare major issue, Caltrain is rarely delayed, it's very different than Amtrak long distance. I do this...

    Amtrak dining and cafe service

Amtrak should look at those Suvie robot ovens (those one's you see advertise on YouTube)

    What should Amtrak change?

I saw this in Amsterdam years ago... they have a giant underground railway station with at least 20 tracks directly under the main terminal baggage claim providing train service to all corners of the Netherlands. That's how you do it. Even if we got Amtrak service to airports here, you know it...

The future of Amtrak and the long distance trains

Granted Amtrak has an immediate crisis with the freight strike but was curious if anyone had any insight/thoughts on which of the many new proposed Amtrak route(s) are most progressing forward at this time? Separately, was thinking with this expanded Amtrak Connect plan there maybe should be a...

Taking SMART for the first time

    - Its worth noting there is a Sail and Rail Combo ticket $13 one way for the GG Ferry -AND- SMART train which is a great deal. Its normally $13 just for the ferry while SMART can range from $3-13 one way. This deal is bought using the SMART train app on your phone. - SMART was one of the only...
