Starlight to (a first time) Eagle. Based in San Marcos and drove out to Pedernales Falls for the day.
The cloud cover added and subtracted from the viewing. Both during the partial and total times we could see the eclipse about 50% of the time, sometimes clearly. We got to observe corona...
Passengers who were in San Marcos may also have been bused to San Antonio separately, but those in Austin boarded a bus in Austin and bypassed San Marcos for San Antonio.
The bus part of the saga was right out of Catch-22. The train rolled from Cleburne 12 hours after stopping and made usual...
Based on my experience on Wednesday, the hole is present, real and the egress/ingress point chosen by anyone who left the station for food. No one I heard from thought the hole in the fence, or the other choices, were adequate for patron safety.
I awaited this train in Austin to continue on the Eagle to LA.
This was variously reported by those on the train for the crash as (1) a semi like stated above or (2) a farming tractor being pulled behind a truck of some kind. I believe the latter as those with that story had more specifics...
It also seems that the excepted method of accessing the downtown area just north of the station is to cross the tracks and duck through a hole in the fence (!?). Recently in Austin, I was in one of those 16-hour waits that is perpetually presented as "we could get going in about 2 hours." Once...
I should stress that I'm by no means expert -- and I probably don't know a lot of basics . . . so as soon as anyone knowledgeable shows up, you can probably discount anything I say that's not a supported fact.
My understanding is that there is a stretch of rail through a pass near Elko that...
It appears from popping in bookings to and from Elko, that one cannot buy a ticket for Elko starting April 8th. Is there another road around the Elko bottleneck? It looks like the Elko stop may have been cut from the Zephyr.
And is it possible they're adding a second rail through that area...
I see there was a recent arrival -- January's 1(3) -- arrived an hour early . . . my question is would the lounge, which normally opens at 5am, have been opened early? Or would passengers have both been expedited off the train and not had that benefit of the lounge?
Well, for those of you keeping score at home, the 5 has arrived in Truckee at 1:16pm, (3 hr 39 min late).
Today's 6 is plodding toward Colfax, estimated to lose an hour of time on the way from Roseville.
Looks like I was rounded up to the next level today in the app and extended into 2025. I'd fallen 400-some points short of the next tier. No email as of yet.
I'm rooting for you all, even if you crash the site now going to check and booking your next travel at your increased level.
Flew into ABQ after work on Friday to catch the October annular eclipse at the Balloon Fiesta field on Saturday morning. Caught the SWChief out of town at 3:30p and met the Coast Starlight back home. Back at work on Monday morning.
I doubt this will happen again. I flew just one leg of one trip this year. Everything else was on Amtrak. Maybe in retirement I'll be able to put together a similar year -- though being on SWA's dime for a cross-country trip after being stranded in their meltdown a year ago definitely helped...
I had this experience. I found a Southwestern knick-knack -- from the Albuquerque platform perhaps -- amid the dust bunnies. I was on a Zephyr out of Emeryville.
I have to update, having spent a couple of hours in the LA Metropolitan Lounge on an ABQ-SJC since this entry. The lounge attendant at work during this visit, Keith, was extremely skilled at handling the demands of so many in a tight space.
He recognized returning passengers with specific...
