Silver Star Hits ANOTHER Tree? 6/22

14 hours late into NYP. Passengers must have been starving. :)

Texas Eagle/Sunset Limited Consist from Los Angeles to Chicago

In the 4 or 5 trips I've had on the TE the consist makeup varied each time.  Last trip LVW to CHI the sleeper (me) was at the rear, except STL to CHI.  That stretch had the 322 coach coupled on the back.  Most other times the Sleeper was right behind the transdorm.  Remember, the TE only gets an...

3(20) and 4(21) Divert due to freight derailment in San Bernardino

Looks like it was a one day event. 4(22) is running it's usual route through Fullerton and the 3(21) schedule shows the normal route stops. As I recall, this was the same detour Amtrak ran during the Cajon Pass fire. That lasted a little longer.

1950's Zephyr food V Boxed Meals...

Notice how the passengers are well dressed. Nothing even close to that on today's trains.

#21 (8/18) Texas Eagle hit car

Story on the crash near Longview, TX is at https://www.marshallnewsmessenger.com/news/amtrak-train-car-catch-fire-near-hallsville/article_0d75d7d4-a320-11e8-be52-ef5e1db873cc.html . Unoccupied auto and front of the P42 are toast. Probably will be towed to FTW. BTW, last time I was in SAS the...

#21 (8/18) Texas Eagle hit car

It's still sitting in Longview at 5:00pm. Could be it needs the spare engine from Ft Worth.

Elimination of diners on western Amtrak long distance trains?

Ah yes. The Fred Harvey chain. The good old days.

    Yesterday's 22 (8/5) just now leaving Texas

By now it probably has problems with the operating crew timing out.

    Sleeper Familiarization

Well, my wife and I took a trip LVW - MKE and back two weeks ago. We had a bedroom and she slept down, I was up. (Her back is worse than mine.) No problems. And we're both in our 80's. Of course we've done this before so knew how it would be. But the "trial run" does seem like a good idea.

Auto Train Derailment - Auto Racks (3/29)

Per TO -- 2 autoracks on 53 derailed. All autoracks were decoupled and engines, passenger cars, diners and lounges continued south.

Amtrak Train 91-CSX collision in SC (2/4/18)/Liability issues

If I remember correctly, at the first press conference the NTSB person said they'd probably be done with their investigation by this coming weekend. After that CSX should be able to clean up the site in a couple days. But if I were you I'd keep checking. I don't know how much track they have...

Amtrak Train 91-CSX collision in SC (2/4/18)/Liability issues

It looks like the lead CSX engine was struck twice by the Amtrak P42; first head-on and then, as the P42 broke in two, by the front of the P42 which bent to the right. The CSX cab doesn't appear to have been struck directly. Although the angle of the photo may be deceiving, it appears the two...

Amtrak train with GOP congressional members hits truck (1/31/18)

It appears to be a special train. Cardinals (50/51) meet west of Charlottesville about 2:00pm and both are moving now according to 'New Track-A-Train'. Early video is at https://twitter.com/DurkinWeather/status/958744984190095366/video/1 .

What happened to the Silvers (7/29/17) on 7/30/17?

98 has cleared the detour at Callahan, FL. Now it's 52's turn, although it hasn't moved yet; maybe waiting for a pilot. Should be interesting, as that detour route appears from Google maps to require a backing move at Baldwin, FL.

Is the AutoTrain still the longest nonstop Amtrak train?

And it's done with only two engines. Of course the route is fairly flat.

Is the AutoTrain still the longest nonstop Amtrak train?

The crew change and service stop, both directions is at Florence, SC. Our SCA said it can be a "fresh-air" stop if they're not running late. I don't know if it was when we rode; slept right through it.

Never say "Terminal" to an old man.

    Train Songs!

I'll cast my vote for Arlo's version. Willie's is kind of bland.
