My mistake. I just got through with AGR for over 3 hours rebooking the SS and adjustments for no dining car. I misread what I thought to be another bad new policy. Next time I will take a deep breath before ranting.

I may have missed this since my last booking, but I now see that discount fares, i.e. Senior, AAA, NARP, etc., are only good if you ride coach. I have always been able to use the senior discount when booking bedroom accommodations or business class. Boy, all these new changes with points...

I was advised by Amtrak that they have now permanently removed the dining car from the Silver Star. I really hate that decision and hope it is not a trend for things to come.

I just noticed an update on Amtrak site that now the dining car will not be on the Silver Star through April 30, 2016. Does anyone know why?

I have reservations on Silver Star roomette in September and just got an email from Amtrak advising that they are running a test from July 1 through Jan 31, 2016 eliminating the diner car. Sleeping passengers can opt to buy food in the Café/Lounge car. They have adjusted fare on the rooms...

Don't know if this helps but I just noticed the Amtrak site for reservations using points states that connections to another train or bus are excluded.
