Viewing a country across a border during a train ride

In the Carpathian mountains on the Ukrainian side there is a railway, built by the Austria-Hungarian empire, which runs right alongside the border with Poland. This area used to be one country, as before 1918 it was all Austria-Hungary, and after 1918 until 1939 it was all Poland. Since 1945...

Amtrak Dining and Cafe service discussion 2024 Q1

I rode the Silver Meteor #98 that departed on Dec 31. Uneven service, to say the least. Boarded in Miami, breakfast had no eggs - no omelette or scrambled. Lunch was full, dinner had no steak. This morning, breakfast had scrambled eggs, but no omelette. Out of curiosity - is it standard that...

NEC riders complaints are similar to LD riders

In Poland, the national rail operator PKP went to all-assigned seating for its intercity services back in 2011. Before that, it was a free for all, much like at Amtrak. Most people who take the train consider this to be the single best thing that has happened to the trains. People really like...

FRA's Corridor ID Program and possible new Corridors

I currently live in Reading (moved up here from Lancaster) so this is my primary concern. Thanks for posting the coverage of that!

FRA's Corridor ID Program and possible new Corridors

Is there a feasible route for that?

    Atlantic Coast (Silver/Palmetto/Carolinian) Service discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I will be travelling on the Silver Meteor later in December in a sleeper from MIA to PHL. I have not done it in a sleeper NB, so and I was researching. According to the FAQs posted here back in 2015, I should get breakfast, lunch, dinner and another breakfast the next morning. Is that correct...

    Atlantic Coast Service discussion

In that case, I guess I got unlucky and ended up with the VI. But who knows how things will be in a few months, so I'm just going to keep it. Thanks!

Does the same rule about numbers apply to train 98? I have a trip in 9811 and was wondering if that will also be the VII.

    Manual connections booking together?

Thank you for the information! That is actually kind of shocking that the connection has to be 90 minutes... Never knew that! In Germany, they hold connections of 15 minutes... alas, it's a different world! Thanks again. I will call or visit the station.

    Manual connections booking together?

Hello I am trying to put together a trip from Lancaster to Boston. I am running into an issue, however, that not all connections are displaying. For example, the first train I can take according to amtrak.com is at 1:40PM that gets me into Boston just before midnight. If you search manually...

    Auto Train discussion

If this is how you truly think, this is an absolute joke. 20 hours of free lodging and food? Is this satire? This is a delay of 20 hours while the train trip was supposed to take no longer than 18. And due to the uniqueness of the auto train, it is not possible for the people to leave and seek...

This makes me feel fortunate to have been on the southbound on 12/26 with only a 10 hour delay

Winter storm related delays and cancellations Winter 2022-2023

FWIW, I just wanted to let you guys know that I am still on the vacation and havent contacted Amtrak yet, but they reached out by themselves and provided a voucher for $150 each, so totalling $300. Not great, not terrible, I'll take it for what it is and run with it. :) Thank you for the advice!

Winter storm related delays and cancellations Winter 2022-2023

Should I call AGR dedicated line or should I be calling the regular relations line?

Winter storm related delays and cancellations Winter 2022-2023

Unfortunately, this is a trip paid fully by points. In that case, what can I expect? I'm ok it they would throw me some points that I spent on the trip. Just not sure what's really codified.

Winter storm related delays and cancellations Winter 2022-2023

I am currently on the auto train 53 that struck a vehicle. We were told this morning we'd be in Florence at 10am and Sanford at 7pm, but we are in Florence at 11:30am. What are the compensation rules for Amtrak in these instances? I understand it's not their fault that somebody's vehicle was...

In a sleeper through Poland with a small excursion to Germany 2021

    76. It is nearly 10pm at night and the sky is still relatively bright! 77. I enjoy travelling along the roads like this. 78. This one being empty, although often we can travel faster than cars. 79. It has gotten considerably darker now. 80. Crossing the Oder river in Szczecin by night...

In a sleeper through Poland with a small excursion to Germany 2021

    71. We enjoy nice beach town and some beach time, as the weather is 82 degrees (28 celsius) and the water is bearable, even though it is a more northern sea. On the way back, we cross the border by foot 72. Before 2007, this all used to be blocked off by fences and barbed wire, since then it...
