    Viewliner side for the Hudson

I'm in 4912, in an even now, but it sounds like it could be 50-50. I'll just have to wait and see!

    Viewliner side for the Hudson

Appreciate it. I’ll try for an even and then figure my chances are about 95 percent for being on the port side. Not the end of the world if not; I can go to the lounge.

    Viewliner side for the Hudson

Thanks , everyone, I was figuring it was the even numbers on the left. So of course I was given room 3! I’ll see if they will change it. The scenery is not too exciting on the other side.

    Viewliner side for the Hudson

Guys, I know my question has been asked and answered but the Search on this site is close to useless and I can't find an entry for which side of the Viewliner heading north is the Hudson side (It's my understanding that Viewliners are generally oriented in a consistent way). Thank you for your...

    bye to my BOA card

I can't speak to what happens if you first sign up, use it, and then drop it. My case involved a renewal, so there was no signup bonus involved. They might have a separate provision for that.

    bye to my BOA card

Yes, but my real deciding factor is I don’t hav faith the travel product will be there when I want to use the points, however handsomely they are earned. Already the LSL and Capitol are not trains I want to ride any more, even though those are routes I like to use.

    bye to my BOA card

It says if you cancel it within 30 days of receiving the renewal fee statement, you don’t pay the fee. The phone agent at first disputed this and insisted that once that fee was on my statement, I owed it. She was ridiculously wrong and finally admitted it.

    bye to my BOA card

My AGR card was coming up for renewal this month, and having just taken a trip on the Chief (which was fantastic!), and not having any planned in the near future, I decided to drop the card. I'm just not seeing the value any more. Even if the AGR points aren't technically devalued, if you have...

    Points or dollars?

Thanks everyone. I inquired because the point fare did not have the discount incorporated so I was in effect paying more with points than money. For some reason they waived the point penalty. This seemed like a good fare, so even though in a way I want to use my points before Amtrak goes even...

    Points or dollars?

Advice please. I have 32,000 points I used 29,000 on a LAX to Chicago roomette for two on the Chief this coming October, but then the fare sale popped up and I can do it for $670 cash, which seems goood. Should I do the cash deal?

Amenities that have disappeared from Amtrak

Yeah, I remember that period. Amtrak went through a little phase of really trying to put the first class in first class, with a Chief of Onboard Services who catered mostly to the sleeping car passengers and the diner.

What was it like to travel in a Heritage Sleeper?

My first time riding the Amtrak Broadway in the '70s I got one of those bonus rooms. But I was always happy with any slumbercoach room--such a deal, especially for a college student.

    Least scenic Amtrak route?

Cannot agree. I think the ride down through Mississippi is a wonderful rumble through the rural South as well as a wistful view of a once mightier main line road and the faded commerce alongside it. And there's Lake Ponchartrain, albeit for a brief time.

    Private car rules for Amtrak?

Yeah, for all that is included, that is not so crazy, especially with all the service provided.

Delayed Train-Forced out of Met Lounge at CHI?

I paid five bucks in Dallas. Wasn't thrilled, but it let me escape the station for a while.

    Family bedroom upgrade on #422

Tough choice. For a trip that long, the better bed is tempting, but those windows are really a drawback for me.

Delayed Train-Forced out of Met Lounge at CHI?

What's with all the "but Amtrak doesn't own or operate the lounge"? That's an excuse of interest to people involved in Amtrak operations, but is irrelevant as a matter of customer service. It's a service marketed by Amtrak to Amtrak customers. Who provides it is irrelevant in terms of what the...

    Great. This ain't the place.

SLC Amtrak to airport at 3am, arriving by CZ

I once got there about midnight on a late westbound. There had been some kind of concert event in town and cabs were absent and seemingly unavailable. About a dozen of us were hoping for cabs and had little luck gettting through to companies on the phone or getting a promise of the cab. I ended...

CZ Eastbound out of GRAND Junction

Plus, those windows are low to the tracks.
