    Revised Wolverine schedule starting 1/22/18

Well, you go me. I'm stumped. Where is SJM? and where is BAM? or HOM? I'm guessing that GRR is Grand Rapids. I guess all the true insiders understand the jargon. The rest of us not so much. When I was younger, I worked for an editor whose most dreaded marginal comment was "DARK". That stood...

Pacific Parlour Car Permanently Retired February 2018

iirc The target date for the bypass is April, but I don't think it has a specific date yet. It is supposed to happen when the PTC is up and tested and working. A delay is possible, of course. But I wouldn't count on using the old route after April.

    Former Wisconsin Talgos

Talgo must be very happy, going back where they are and will be appreciated. LOL. They've had a very good relationship with the Cascades for 20 years or so, but were treated shabbily by Scott Walker and the Koch Brothers. Hope Talgo doesn't take a loss on these trains after all the mess.

    Former Wisconsin Talgos

This is now a settled question. On Railroad.net, bostontrainguy posted this info he found from the Federal Register online: Amtrak plans to lease two articulated Series 8 trainsets from Tren Articulado Ligero Goicoechea Oriol (Talgo) to support its Cascade intercity service...

Amtrak train with GOP congressional members hits truck (1/31/18)

Invest in a daily Cardinal, and a second frequency, with improvements on the route, like eliminating more grade crossings. The cure for what ails Amtrak is more Amtrak (including more grade-separated crossings). Edited when I finally recalled the right word. LOL.

    Texas HSR

Best thing that could happen to California HSR would be for Texas HSR to get finished first. The Golden State won't stand for being left behind by its rival Lone Star state.

Derailment of Cascades #501, DuPont WA, 2017-12-18

If a sign like this goes for about $72 on the Internet, maybe the cost could be covered by a crowd-funding drive? Nah, easier to write the check and sent it to Richard Anderson my damn self.

When it comes to growing Amtrak, what service expansion(s) do you view

WPK is the code for Winter Park, Florida. This info for those of us who memorized the 500+ Amtrak codes when young, but have forgot them in our dotage.

Whoa, Son. You are presumptuous and disrespectful to this community to parachute in making a half dozen posts and then telling a senior and well-respected member here who has made over 2,400 posts that he's childish and pedantic. Please chill.

Proposals for Restored Gulf Coast Service

Actually, I don't recall an exact amounted demanded by CSX, or where they wanted to spend it. I just heard that they asked so much altogether that it seemed to stop the discussion. But the dark, unsignaled stretch (where the new train is to run overnight) lies between Pensacola and Tallahassee...

Proposals for Restored Gulf Coast Service

CSX, 2017: "That stretch is vital to our system. Putting any Amtrak trains on it will seriously disrupt our freight operations. We'll need a Billion for upgrades to avoid harm to our core business." CSX, 2018: "We don't even need those tracks in Florida for our freight business. See if we can...

Fixed! Thanks for fixing me up!

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-2024)

That's a big step ahead for the Capitol Corridor trains. About $300 million ahead. So when they get the funding in place ... (I'm sorry to see you say the Coast Starlight already uses the shorter route. I'd been planning an earlier arrival in L.A. until I saw that. LOL.)

Sorry, the link doesn't get me to a very useful place.

Siemens Caltrans/IDOT Venture design, engineering, testing and delivery (2012-2024)

Phrased in a very diplomatic way, with no naming and no blaming. LOL. But informative.

Pacific Parlour Car Permanently Retired February 2018

I'm not so down on how Amtrak fared with the Stimulus. Could have been better but it was only a lousy $10 or $12 Billion, after all. Amtrak got a little something for the NEC. A big bridge in Connecticut. Rebuilt 90+ wrecked cars parked at Beech Grove. It got a new building in Seattle so not...

    Revised Wolverine schedule starting 1/22/18

This is really good news. Happy to see it. Thanks for posting. My favorite change is the late arrival in Detroit, was 12:17 a.m., will be 11:54 p.m. Alighting pre-midnight instead of 17 minutes post-midnight should help psychologically. Not picking on Detroit, but everybody would prefer to...

    Revised Wolverine schedule starting 1/22/18

One fine day, as per the dreams of the Ohio Hub, around 8 corridor trains per day will run Cleveland-Toledo-Dearborn (or -Detroit or -Something LOL). The segment CLE-TOL will get upgraded first, as part of CLE-TOL-CHI 110-mph dedicated passenger line, then TOL-Dearborn will be the add-on. None...

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

The plan is to fence off the 110-mph Lincoln route St Louis-CHI in its second phase, if there ever is such a thing. All the work to date was built leaving space for the desired fencing. But even in phase one they bragged that a good many miles are already fenced off.

Viewliner II Part 2: Dining Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

LOL. Without going to read it again, I'm just sure that the Fleet Plan indeed intends for the next Big order to be for 600 or more coaches at about 100 cars per year, or two per week, over about 6 or 7 years. Anyway, I have the idea that the CAF facility is about the right size for batch orders...
