    MNRR Dual Mode Chargers discussion

roof exit is a FRA mandate but on dual modes there will be a modification to fireman's side window. egress is over console and a rope type ladder down to coupler level . note: that picture in my post is not actual Metro North unit but a photoshop. the trucks lack third rail gear and fireman's...

    MNRR Dual Mode Chargers discussion

Reason third rail operations is expanded is that new Dual modes have a energy storage module that will keep HEP alive in gaps. so HVAC's do not get damaged. the P32acdm's did not have an option for that. The module does not power locomotive in gaps.

    Budd RDC technical stuff

now your getting confusing , transition has nothing to do with gears or shifting, its reconfiguring the electric circuit to traction motors. Series - parallel - and field shunting , the mechanical configuration does not change.

    Budd RDC technical stuff

The RDC only had 4 trottle settings no control of gears it had TC (transmission/clutch)and 1- 2 -3 as trottle settings accomplished by 3 throttle solenoids on engine. the SPV had a stepless air trottle controlling engine speed between 90 and 110 lbs of brake pipe pressure, the transmission was...

New York City Subway derailment 1/4/24

find it odd that no one has mentioned that unless one train ran a stop signal, it could only mean a faulty track circuit. as has happened at Marble hill a long time ago on Metro North

E and F unit locomotives today

streamlining is mainly aesthetics, the most drag is actually the space between cars where they are coupled.

E and F unit locomotives today

When restoring a locomotive it is usually grandfathered to rules that existed during initial construction. A new locomotive is subject to rules at time of construction. same with pollution standards a locomotive is subject to standards at time Engine(motor) was constructed. So an upgraded F...

Remember how Alstom rescinded the test running and offer for 6 axle CC21003 (French fry) X-996 mainly due to track conditions on N.E.C. http://www.amtrakhistoricalsociety.org/x996.html

Alstom the problem ?? lets just list all suppliers Amtrak has problems with, now- in past - in future. there is only one common denominator in all this. as for Alstom absorbing Bombardier ? yes Bombardier has had some poor workmanship issues but how much or how many people ended up in Avelia...
