Via Rail Canada Youth 150 Pass Trip

Nice. I've done the Toronto to Vancouver in sleeper. A suggestion if you want a shower on your return trip. During the extended stop in Winnipeg, hit the Fairmont hotel. They should still be selling health club day passes for $10-20 CAD. When I did the trip, my at the time 85 year old...

    Favorite dining-car meal companions

The dude on my first CONO trip, who halfway through dinner, pulled out a mickey of Vodka and drank half of it, before offering it around the table. He then put it back into his jacket, like this was an every day thing. It was amusing.

Roomettes - upper bed down, lower still stowed?

Well, if I can build a little sitting area underneath the upper bed, and pass the night with scenery and "Breaking Bad" on the iPad, I might not even use the bed. Ten years after coming off overnights, I can still sleep anywhere, and in the right circumstances, wake up with the "beep" in the...

Roomettes - upper bed down, lower still stowed?

First off, thanks for all the replies, good info. As to the "coffin" effect, try a roomette on the Ocean from Montreal to Halifax - the bed slides out from the wall, and your legs are tucked under a bulkhead while sleeping. Interesting.

Roomettes - upper bed down, lower still stowed?

Hi all, For my upcoming trip, I'm going solo in a roomette (CONO, then Crescent). Can they set the rooms so the upper bed is out, and the lower is stowed so that the chairs are still usable? Not concerned about bed size, I can sleep anywhere. Just wondering about slamming my head if I get up...

    Intro to me

Thanks, all. If anyone wants VIA info, I'm willing to dish :) Or basic Canadian touristy stuff. Looking forward to the TR, SarahZ - plan now is to fly to DCA, spend the day (Smithsonian, Postal museum), then the Crescent, two days in NOL, then the City of NOL, and maybe a night in CHI. Will...

    Intro to me

Hi all, Found this site thanks to AlanB's posts on a frequent flyer board that will not be named - guess! I'm a VIA traveller, having done the Canadian, the Ocean, and many, many Corridor trips. Have never done Amtrak, but am planning a WAS - NOL - CHI trip in November. Formerly a travel...

    Advice on taking the Canadian?

Well, then first post on this board. The Canadian is a great ride, and I would really recommend doing it. Three years ago, I did the Toronto - Vancouver trip with my father and grandfather (40, 62, and 88 respectively - guess who got the top bunk in the cabin for three). Views from the domes...
