    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Emergency tracheostomies frequently don't end well. Those done in the field almost never end well. There are a lot of blood vessels in the way that can make things very messy, and very quickly.

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

Not really a surprise, considering how "wide open" the SSL is. During a sudden deceleration, there's a lot more room to "travel" as opposed to a roomette or a bedroom.

    Empire Builder accident (9/25/21)

That's the lawyers talking - Of course they blame Amtrak and BNSF for everything. Their thinking is that had the companies done their jobs and kept up maintenance and "culture of safety" this would never have happened. If you're not going to blame Amtrak and BNSF, you have little recourse other...

Actually, per-passenger-mile, air travel is safest, with bus being second. Rail travel is #3 as I posted a while ago.

“Everybody who is alive has been extricated from the wreck,” Ms. Frickel said. Well, that certainly doesn't sound good.

Craziest Drama on Amtrak you've seen?

The craziest thing I ever saw was not on Amtrak, but in the Chicago Metropolitan Lounge. The Mrs. and I arrived at 6:30 for a departure on CONO. We got settled in, and there was an older woman seated about 20 feet in front of and to the right of us. She spent about 15 minutes rummaging through...

Could Siemens Viaggio be the next sleeper car?

Do the western trains really need bilevel? I was looking at passenger capactity: Two Superliner Sleepers can accommodate 84 passengers, assuming two passengers per compartment. Not counting family bedroom here. One Viewliner Sleeper can accommodate 32. A train with three Viewliner Sleepers...

    Same Fare, regardless of day

I was looking at a trip CHI-NOL next April, and I went to Amsnag to see the best days to travel. Surprisingly the entire month shows the same fare! I ended up booking (using points), and the fares were right in line with what Amsnag said. Isn't it unusual to have that kind of consistency over...

    AGR Website

That solution just worked for me as well. On my Mac using 1) Safari, 2) Firefox and 3) Chrome. Thanks!

    AGR Website

Fair enough, but deciding which changes should be made, and their scheduling is part of the middle managers' jobs. Those have nothing to do with whether a page loads or a click works. That falls on the programmers/web designers, doesn't it? For example, a merchant wants to implement a new way...

    AGR Website

I would have considered it a problem on my end because I use a Mac and the Apple browser, Safari. However, it also occurs on my iPad, and using two other browsers. Here's the mail I tried to send via the Amtrak website for feedback: "Having difficulty navigating Amtrak/AGR site. Running Mac...

    AGR Website

I'm still having problems even after deleting cookies and cache, restarting the computer. On a Mac. Safari, Firefox and Chrome all give the aptly-named "infinite loading problem" Also, when I log into Amtrak.com, clicking on the AGR link logs me out and I have to log in again. Once logged in...

    Cancelling the fee card?

I just read that companion coupons will be applicable to roomette accommodations. If that's the case, it might be worth keeping the fee card, assuming that policy will extend to bedrooms in a short while.

    Cancelling the fee card?

Ah, I think I get it. There's no way that I *won't* have 24 months of AGR inactivity. I have both the World and Platinum cards. I'll keep the Platinum and cancel the World - for 24 months. And I'll keep using the Platinum (no-fee) card. Does that make sense?

    Cancelling the fee card?

So...i have to have the card inactive for 24 months before re-applying, right?
