    Amtrak Siemens Charger locomotive (SC44, ALC42, ALC42E) (2015 - 1Q 2024)

It would be a good idea to remember that some of those p42’s were ordered to allow long trains of mail and express traffic to have up to 5 locomotives, depending on terrain and traffic. 125 (or 175 if the rest of the options get exercised) new locomotives should be enough for the LD network as...

    Midwest Venture introduction

350/353 and 318/319, last I got an update. These two round trips require three sets with one overnighting in Kansas City and the other two in Chicago.

    European Overnight Trains

I’ve both detrained and entrained at Spokane, and there have been taxis each time. There is an on site security guard, and I felt safe each time.

    Careers with Amtrak

Their HR department is severely understaffed… don’t give up and follow up with the people that interviewed you.

    Brightline Trains Florida discussion

Easy enough if you offer a shuttle train MCO-Tampa or MCO-DS.

Amtrak service cuts on Texas Eagle

Not that I am aware of… The way they did the 5X was not designed to save any sets…

    Sunset Limited service disruption?

Dry, yes. Hydrophobic also, so rain runs right off, rather than mostly draining into the soil.

Forgot ticket number, made typo on email

Why not just visit the nearest staffed station to ask the agent for a printout?

What is the Amtrak Exhibit Train?

I'm almost certain that it has been sitting there in "storage" for several years at this point, I don't hold my breath for it to reopen anytime soon.

Amtrak goes straight to STB to restore Gulf Coast service.

Like the live stream camera that Amtrak put up and streamed to the internet?

    Cost allocation

I am using a tool I built using some known and some estimated numbers for expenses. At this time, I am not willing to share more than a snapshot, so here it is... Edit: This is a snapshot for the Empire Builder route, replacing the existing equipment with new Siemens Venture based LD equipment.

Lower priced Sleeper for single travelers

There is demand for ~300 beds of capacity in Sleeper and ~300 seats in coach. They have the capability to add two more cars to the train if they have demand for more

Lower priced Sleeper for single travelers

There is a reason that auto train runs with 4 coaches along with 7 sleepers, as of this last weekend. (I watched it pass the railcam at Folkston, GA.)

Lower priced Sleeper for single travelers

I think it was more likely what Amtrak could prove to their creditors, since they borrowed money to purchase them.

    Cost allocation

I think I have figured out what the "Avoidable Operating Expense by Passenger Revenue" tab is calculated including... It seems to include the cost of replacing the equipment in about 4-6 years, depending on route. It would seem to me that Amtrak is already "Banking" expenses for equipment that...

    LD Train Configuration

At the moment, the consist is Locomotive, Locomotive, Baggage Car, Crew Dorm, Sleeper, Sleeper, Diner, Lounge, Coach and Coach.

    Empire Builder consist?

Best chance is to follow the Empire Builder group on Facebook, as there are some posters in the Chicago and Seattle areas that check the trains regularly before departure or shortly after they leave... Usually they report if there are any strange consists or "special" locomotives like new chargers.

    Auto Train new schedule

It is their right, as they OWN the tracks that Amtrak is RENTING to use.

    Amtrak long distance fares 2021-2023

In other words, no single roomette is free the whole route end to end, as they are booking into and out of all rooms at least once enroute.

    Cost allocation

Ok, one thing to mention right now is that the data has been revised. If @neroden was looking at the same data I looked at in Feburary, before the revision, then he was correct. I am attaching the copy I downloaded of the original data. (Not able to upload the excel file for some reason...)Not...
