19 VERY Late - 2/25/15

Why is the southbound Crescent running almost 9 hours late? It's only approaching ATL (5 PM). Even the Amtrak status maps site (dixielandsoftware.net) has stopped logging its progress.

I added it back to the map. The system will flush a train if it is inactive for a long time.

Is it just stopping and starting or what?? I will be on 20 next week and hope this does not happen to me.

Sorry if I confused you. "Inactive" in this context refers to Amtrak Status Maps' presentation of train 19(24). Amtrak wasn't reporting the train's times in their reservations system for a very long period so MY system, Amtrak Status Maps, removed the train from the map.

If you check on the train, you'll see it left New York almost 6 hours late and was picking up time down through Charlotte. Then something happened where it lost another 3.5 hours and showed up at Atlanta. You'll notice that as of now, most of the train's times are not reported, so we can't tell where the delay occurred.

Looking at the NYP departure time, I guess something happened at Sunnyside Yard to cause this, possibly an emergency equipment repair...? Then NS Dispatch had to insert 19 into whatever track space was available because its scheduled window had been lost five hours before. I feel sorry for the crews and the passengers, especially those who had been told "how wonderful rail travel is".

What concerns me is that I'll be arriving on 19 in June and my grandson, who works in Slidell will be picking me at 6:07 PM...I hope.

Wow,left NY over 5 hours late. So it wasn't the weather maybe. When ever I have been on 19 or 20 it has never been that late.

Thanks so much,do passengers get a voucher or refund because of this train being late. Also to look at the bright side if there is one,you get to see parts of NC,SC and GA, that you normally don't see because of being asleep. Still wouldn't want to be 8 hours late. I am bookmarking Amtrak Status Maps. Thanks

My last trip down on 19 last summer, we didn't hit NOL until around 3AM... at the smoke stop in BHM (around 8-9 PM) I was joking with the crew that at this point I wouldn't mind another 3 or 4 hours further loss so I could get a good night's sleep on board before connecting to 1 the next morning. They were not amused. :huh:
