So the south bound Texas Eagle lost some time last night north of Little Rock. It went by the Big Sandy Texas web cam about 4 hours late with only one P42 and three coaches.

Does anyone know what happened??

Jim

Ok, second day in a row that the south bound Texas Eagle was running a short train. A P42 and four coaches. Nothing on the Amtrak Alerts today and the train was "on time" this morning.

Why are they running short for a second day??

That's good news re the TE Jim, thanks for letting us know. What is the plan for the auto train?

We're planning to re-visit the US in Fall next year on the basis that by next Spring the world is in a different place to today. The TE journey is part of the plan although not in the Fall, we are planning a longer visit to our usual.

You appear quite perky on the forum and saw you got away for a day trip last week?, Looks like you are coping well with this new life we all lead.

Our problem during Covid times is a very minor one, we're going a bit Stir Crazy. But we are able to do that in a lovely place so not complaining at all, just dreaming of a better future for everyone.

The Auto Train is the only LD Train that as of now is Scheduled to remain Daily Jaime.

Of course the Coach Diner has been removed, so Coach Passengers no.longer have Meals included in their Fare.

Actually, the 21/421 use the same consist everyday. Three days, the only sleeper and the rear coach are switched to the rear of the SL, and vice versa with 22/422.
Wow, when did they start that? I guess if ridership is low enough, that would make sense.

That's the Normal consist for the Texas Eagle between Chicago and San Antonio. ( they did take the Bag Car off last year, they uses a Coach/ Bag Car.)

Normal use to be a P42, a trans-dorm, sleeper, diner, lounge, baggage coach, and two coaches. With the reduced schedule and train it is only: a P42, a sleeper, the diner, a baggage coach, and a regular coach.

By reducing capacity, this makes travel on Amtrak even more difficult. The TE will show small ridership compared to previous years, excellent opportunity next year or 2022 to propose discontinuance for lack of passengers. The slippery slope is getting steeper and steeper.

Maybe we could bring sandwiches?
If we're talking seriously then there was a Subway in the Fort Worth station that could work if it's still open. I don't remember anything near the station in Houston. In El Paso you could grab something from a hotel cafe a few blocks away. In San Antonio the calling times don't work for grabbing food and drinks and Austin doesn't have much near the tracks but it does have Jim.

I just checked the Denny’s web page, the 903 East Commerce location in San Antonio is back to 24/7. The Denny’s is approximately 1/2 mile walk from the station. Lots of folks have taken the middle of the night pause to get breakfast or a sandwich, stretch ones legs.

Coach passengers never had their meals included in their farės, only sleepers. 🙂

El Paso also has Juanita the Burrito Lady.
