I tried to enter an itinerary at Amtrak's site to travel from Alb to Las Vegas. It has us taking the train into LA then bus to Las Vegas. I thought it stopped in Kingman and then bused one to Las Vegas from there? Has this been discontinued?

Is your starting point ABQ (as in the thread title) or ALB (as in the post)?

Also, the problem may be you tried LVS (which is the downtown bus service) not LAS (which is the shuttle van from Kingman ti the airport)!

The relavent stations are

LSV -- Las Vegas, NEW MEXICO. You probably do not want this one.

LAS -- Las Vegas, NV International Airport. This is where the Kingman van stops.

LVS -- Las Vegas, NV downtown. This is where the bus from Los Angeles stops.

Agree with the Traveller. Gotta book ABQ - LAS. Then, from the airport, you shouldn't have a problem finding a ride to the strip.

Aloha

Just take a train from the Airport. OOP's they forgot to build the Monorail to the Airport.     :lol:Since the Strip is close to the Strip There are Shuttles, busses and cabs to most of the bigger hotels.

Has anyone taken the bus service from LAX to Las Vegas [ LVS ] downtown stop ? Is this an Amtrak thruway bus ? How comfortable is it ? One a 1-10 scale ? Where does it stop in relation to the main strip ?

I've never taken it, but it stops in downtown Las Vegas at the Greyhound Bus Terminal - next to the Union Plaza (and the old Amtrak station), across from the Golden Nugget, Freemont Street Experience, etc... - and many miles from the Strip. But it is easily reachable by cab or city bus (CAT).

It is a regular Greyhound run, not a dedicated Thruway contracted bus. The downtown stop is at the Greyhound station on Main St., just south of the Plaza hotel downtown. This is a couple of miles from the start of the north end of the Strip (Las Vegas Blvd. & Sahara), and the neighborhood between them is not very good, so you shouldn't walk it. It is like 6 miles from the south end of the Strip (Las Vegas Blvd. & Tropicana). Taking the bus (CAT), either the Ace or the Deuce strip services is cheap and easy, although the Deuce is slower than dirt. Get on at the Transit Center. A lot of people get on at Fremont and Las Vegas Blvd and it is harder to get a seat.

This correct except that the strip start at Sahara is 2.8 miles from Union Station most of the area around downtown LV is not good at night. The exception is Fremont street in Downtown. I just moved about 4 miles east of the Sahara end of the strip. The area between changes quite a bit.

The area used to be better until Eric moved in - then it went downhill!

The strip actually goes south of Tropicana - unless you don't consider the Tropicana, Excalibuer (sp), Luxor, Mandalay Bay and others as not being part of the strip!
