Advice on Empire Service stations

Family members will be catching a train in upstate NY next year. What is the best station for waiting several hours? The options are Schenectady, Amsterdam, Utica,or Rome. The station must be safe, reasonably attractive, and within walking distance of suitable restaurants or shops that might interest a 10 year old and parents.

Schenectady in the downtaown area or Utica with a restaurant in the station building are the best choices. Avoid Amsterdam which is far from downtown almost in the middle of nowhere. Rome is nice after the renovation, or so I have heard. I have not been there after the renovation.
