I think sometimes it's a little hairy up there, but it can also be relaxing. When I rode up there this summer, the engineer I was with made himself a salad up there. Other than when he was on the radio with dispatch, he was quite relaxed.
 
It's actually the best place in my opinon to be on the train. The ride is very smooth, since you have all of the weight of the engine with you. The noise is present but not obnoxious. The temperature is almost always comfortable because your AC works, regardless of whether HEP is up or not. You have a panorama view of the road. I LOVE IT UP THERE!!!
