Hello and good day to everyone.
I am an Amtrak newbie and rode the auto-train for the first time in November., it was not a pleasant trip. A little boy seated behind us talked nonstop, finally went to sleep, woke up at 5 AM (waking me up), and again talked nonstop. If I had known we could move to another available seat I would have. We can not afford a sleeper room.
Our trip was hrs longer than scheduled because of a derailment ahead of us. When I fell asleep I expected to wake up in FL but instead woke up in SC. When we finally got to our destination it was a torrential downpour and we had to wait for another 2 hrs for our car. I figured it had to be a fluke and we will try it again and hope it's better.
I'm writing to ask experienced auto train travelers for any other things I should know, even minor things, tips and of course any ideas for saving. Thank you. I look forward to your reply.
